Well I just got my regulator/filter/oiler for £19.99

It is made by Omega-Wolf, in China.

The first thing that struck me is the pressure gauge has a black pointer against a black background

It has 1/4 BSP threads, so flow may be limited.

You can split the lubricator from the filter to reveal 1/4 bsp tapped holes, so the two units can be used seperately. Nice. Normally an O-ring seals the two units.

The filter is auto-draining.

There are two hoses, 3m & 10m fitted with quick release couplings, but not the standard PCL types we all know and love.

There are two spare couplings to fit to the regulator.

If it works it will be good value for money!

There is an instruction leaflet and loads of mention of customer support, helplines & websites.

Problem 1 - the pressure gauge limits on the securing ring for the bowl before it tightens up, I fitted a spare gauge I had lying around, although PTFE tape should help.

Problem 2 - the inlet to the oiler isn't tapped which is a shame because I was hoping to use it seperately from the regulator. I'll just have to make sure the oiler needle valve is shut before blasting.

I got carried away, and have the compressor, spot blaster, die grinder and filter kit.

Generally, the compressor is solid, reasonably quiet, fills quickly and I'm fairly confident it will fulfill my occasional use requirements. The accessories also seem reasonable. Yes they are cheap, and it does show, but for the money, it ain't bad at all. I'm pleasantly surprised, as they are better than I was expecting.

The die grinder looks worse than the other bits, and all the stickers had already fallen off before it was unpacked. It comes with 2 spanners, for fitting grinding wheels, but they are both the same size, and the nuts aren't. I haven't tried it yet, but will report back when I have.

The filter is pretty much as above. It is no picture of high quality, but seems quite strong and works fine. I did have to liberally apply PTFE to get the fittings to seal, and there was no lubricant, despite what it said on the box. Does engine oil work?

The spot blaster and sprayer will get an outing this evening and over the weekend, so we'll see how they go.

So, in summary, please so far, but will see how it goes. After all, I have 3 years in which to break it all, and get a refund!

There's no mention on the box mine came in about lubricant.

Thought I'd email them about not being able to use the oiler seperately and found their website had been taken down because their bandwith had been exceeded.

Apologies if I'm pointing out the obvious but the 3 die grinders I've had, have all come with a double ended spanner - I assume this isn't the case with the Aldi one ??

I've also got the compressor and ratchett set. As you said compressor isn't top quality but I only plan to use it in tandem with my 3hp compressor for the times I need lots of air. Mine came ready filled with oil, and the ratchet set had it's own little bottle of oil as well.

Overall for the money I'm pleased with it.

You need one spanner to hold the spindle whilst you use the other to tighten the collet. Both spanners fit the collet, but the spindle is much smaller.

I'll check again on the lube/filter box about the oil being included, but was sure it was mentioned. Could be me loosing it though.

My fault but I forgot to mention duty cycle so it now has problems. A freind who knows about things thinks it is probably worn piston rings and there is a good chance that everything else would be OK. Any thoughts? or should I just rush to Aldi and hope they have some left?

Don't know much about compressors but if you (your neighbour) has managed to burn one out just spraying decking I'd be looking to upgrade to something more substantial. Oh, and never lend out tools... they have a tendancy to always come back fecked! (if at all )

You can get a rebuild kit for the compressor for probably more than what you paid for the whole thing

To be fair to the machine the instructions warn against exceeding the duty cycle and it is a VERY large area of decking.

Should be fine for undersealing, you might need to stop and let the tank fill up fairly frequently but that won't affect the finish for you. (Tank fills pretty quickly anyway)

I wouldn't use the compressor for spraying paint where you obviously want a flawless finish and I'm not sure how it will cope with a die grinder as that's pretty air hungry as well. It's really more suited to short burst tools eg wrenches, nail guns, tyre inflating etc

A useful tool to have though.

It will run a die grinder, just! The tank drains fast, but the pump keeps up pretty well. Fine for the amount I'll be doing, but no good if you have a lot to grind.

I tried the gravity sprayer last night, and that was fine. I've got the flow set very low, as I'm only spraying small items, but the duty cycle for continuous spraying is acceptable, and the quality of finish from the gun ain't bad either. I'll give it a go on some smooth flat surfaces later, to really test the finish.

The spot blaster is reasonable and cleans up rust quite well. Hardly dented high performance digger paint though, but that stuff is tough, and possibly down to the medium used. It's hard enough to shift with a file or sandpaper. I'll be making a small cabinet soon, as I got grit everywhere! Should also serve as a neat storage box. The compressor again just about kept up. Thankfully, I don't have much to shotblast.

Overall, still impressed, value for money wise.

bought one of these compressors today, ive been using a 1.5 draper 24 litre one up until now, ahem 'borrowed' from work. the powercraft one is much better. we'll see over time how it fairs. bin the quick connectors it comes with tho and get some standard ones from machine mart

I got the die grinder too, same story with the stickers.

I did get two different sized spanners though, I'd go back with it and exchange it if they have any left.
