id rather not build one but that samsonia perfect vice im after is such a good one im surprised that you didnt go for it

i have one and ive given it some stick already with 5mm steel and a club hammer sledge hammer and also a ball hammer while bending metal with it ive even had it open enough in the aid of bending/ rolling steel by vice strength

I love his YouTube channel! He has a pleasant, unassuming way of doing them. I was a bit amused by this vice video when he said that he wanted to spend no more than a couple of hundred dollars on making it... doesn't consider the tens of thousands of dollars of kit he used to make it though!

I don't disagree that you couldn't make a vice with a welder and a grinder... the emphasis being on 'a'!

What thread would be better, Acme?

ACME or buttress will be stronger but it should definitely be coarser, my vise is about half that size and even with a 4tpi thread I sometimes wish for a quick release. At least with a nut on the front he can get an impact wrench on to wind it out.

Acme or similar; able to apply greater amounts of torque, while still releasing easily. Also withstands constant use without wear

Why would you make a vice when you can buy a decent used all steel record vice that will will be so much easier to use.

I like the old vice making videos from chuck, just a redneck and a grinder no fancy gear .. Infact its one of them that got me into welding!
