I've done drawings on anything from my arm to one of the dogs poo bags,it would be good to be able to bring up an old drawing plus give a customer a drawing of the job before I startI have started a udemy course and it seemed to indicate you could get a student licence for fusion 360. I have sent an email. Still awaiting a reply.
I just hate misinformation or when it's used in the wrong way.Definitely not rich, but if you need a tool to run a business, you need to pay for it some how.
Yes, I could use various other free/cheaper software, but they're not as slick as F360, and I can't justify SolidWorks
I'm not sure Autodesk will accept Udemy for student licenses.
IIRC a student license is pretty much a commercial license, and they're quite strict about who qualifies.
Actually, just checked, and non-accredited training providers (aka what Udemy is) are explicitly excluded - https://www.autodesk.com/company/te...-terms/educational-licensees-additional-terms
It simply states F360 is free for students and hobbyists.I just hate misinformation or when it's used in the wrong way.

Is it just me or does that intimate that you can get a student licence if you use udemy courses.
In fact udemy qualifications are now accredited (allegedly)
For what it’s worth, I did a short course at the local technical college earlier last year. It wasn’t enough to get a student email address.I just hate misinformation or when it's used in the wrong way.

yes thats where the issue lies. if you let it lapse you can renew as hobby use. If you try in the last month it tries desperately (and usually wins) to give you a months trial version.Well I'm pleased to say I've been able to renew my 'personal use' licence for Fusion360. It got to the point that it had actually expired - I knew that it would over the Christmas / New Year period and had intended to try and sort it before it died but things got complicated by various relatives getting sick and needing attention (a 3 day stay turning into 10 !). In the end it was quite simple but I'm having difficulties being precise in what I did. Somehow I got to a page where I could do a complete personal usage trial download, but it said that I already had the latest version. After that my copy has a small banner saying personal use but seems to work fine. I created a test 'truncated cone' and sucesfully 3D printed it so I'm probably ok for another year - phew !
I was a student attending evening classes, they needed a college photo id to approve my educational licenceFor what it’s worth, I did a short course at the local technical college earlier last year. It wasn’t enough to get a student email address.
That’s what they use to validate your eligibility and to send the link to access the student version. Apparently
Buggers!I was a student attending evening classes, they needed a college photo id to approve my educational licence
That was 2019/20/21
A mate on another forum was having trouble with some DXFs from the States. His CNC people here couldn't work with them. The outer perimeter of the shape to cut weren't proper polylines as far as I could see.
I tried. AutoCAD wouldn't open them and threw a hissy fit. Fusion would open them but we couldn't mod/save without paying.
I can't be arsed with going through all the crap with sheer. I used to take the 3D printer in to my grandsons local primary school.@m_c @ukracer
Autodesk don't do the educational approval themselves; it's done by a third party called 'SheerID' and it's stricter than it's ever been in the 15yrs or so I've been an 'educator'.
(We have to go through the process annually and not even an email address at an education establishment is sufficient! Also need photographic ID and proof of employment as an 'educator'.)
Well I would buy it once I learnt it. But not anymore as its crippleware. Who knows what they will stop hobbiests using next.Hard to see how they loose really, they are only interested in commercial users and potential professional users….
Do any of the major players offer ‘free’ any more?
This is exactly why I avoided Fusion 360 (as well as the fact it seems quite slow compared to others I tried). I didn't want to learn a system and get fluent with it and then have some critical functionality removed unless I paid. I'd rather pay once and be sure I've got it for good.Well I would buy it once I learnt it. But not anymore as its crippleware. Who knows what they will stop hobbiests using next.
