I wasn't sure if the trigger operated through the normal pins on the euroconnector and the power went to spool motor via the small plug?

On my gun its the wires to the trigger. If the gun has a speed control, then the socket will most likely be part of that system also. If your machine doesnt have the socket for it, best get out the multimeter and soldering iron, then start doing some new wiring

Normally through the plug, but as you know, so many permutations out there!
The spool gun picutered is the one I have. The sockets plugs in to the spool gun socket on the sealey machine. It is stated that this is only for electromig 195. The socket is for wire feed speed and trigger, which I imagine is simply in series with motor rather than running to a contact to switch.
I think there is only four pins, two for switch and two for the pot for the wire feed speed.
