The fit is highly dependant on the calibration of the printer. So even if the tolerance is spot on in the 3d model your flow rate, material shrinkage, over/underextrusion all affect it.

Plus some models on thingiverse are posted without ever having been printed.

Every other nut or bolt I have printed fits fine...so must be the model.

Daughter & her Hbby are living in a sum Landlords property. it is bad but I'm happy for them to learn the hard way instead of listening to us Sensei who have been there , done it and bear the scars .
As soon as their tenancy of 6 months is up they are hoping to move out . For four months they have put up with a toilet seat that will not fix down using the through the porcelain long hinge securing bolts fitted with wing nuts . So the seat slips & slides about when your sat on it and won't stay raised up in the open position .
The reason is both of the plastic wing nuts are rock solid about 15 mm short of being tightened up r .. I suspect they are like this due to one of the cheaper plastics that attract moisture being used for the nuts & bolts causing them to swell in a matter of hours after being exposed to moisture.
My hope is to identify a likely pair of replacement nuts & bolts ...maybe even print them if I don't have any galv steel ones in the mancupboard . So if any of you have removed or still have a cheap white plastic bog seat are you able to advise what the securing bolts look like wrt bolt heads , lengths & shape if not a straight bolt of say 60 mm long?

I've only ever printed in ABS

I used to have a couple of bits of cardboard box around the printer to stop draughts, which helped a lot, used it like that for years

more recently I made a better enclosure because I've got a load of things to print and they're pretty big/bulky

enclosure is just one of those £5 idea tables on top of the printer with 2mm perspex sies, not properly sealed at all... air temp inside is about 30'C when printing... I normally warm the bed up early to warm the enclosure up a bit

with no brim etc.. I get a little bit of lifting and a bit of splitting... the bits I'm printing are going to be bolted to a wall so they'll be fine like that once fitted

they're pretty big/bulky bits, only getting 5 out of a 1kg reel of ABS


I thought about a better enclosure... was thinking a (broken) fridge with a glass door would be perfect!... but I'd have to move the controller outside of the fridge and I'm not sure how well the stepper motors would fair at higher temps?

Re the temps for ABS........ I have a sealable enclosure for my genuine Prusa 3 i S +

On 2& 3 Dec 2021 I printed those chunky tap protection blocks for you in Prusa's own ABS with the cabinet closed up the average internal temp using two 7 watt CFL's on baton bulb holders was a warm 38. 3 oC for a 27.6 hr run
The second set of blocks were printed with the bulbs off and it registered a temp of 33.6 oC .
I don't know how well non Prusa gear would stand up to those temps but suspect that they will be very similar .

Can anyone send me a PM or put up a post of how to entirely remove stored files of fusion 360 designs from the Fusion cloud & my windows computer ? I've finally managed to regain access to Fusion after it kept crashing out ( was given a Fusion removal tool from Autodesk and told start again.
That done it shows my old drawings & I cannot seem to find a way to remove the files , that shown on the left of the screen when I open the screen that shows files on the start page after clicking on the grid con at the top left of the page

I have 6 out of of my 10 free files there and no longer want or need them , I want to free up those six spaces for my next Fusion ventures this winter.

If you right click on an item in the list of things you have designed you then should be presented with a drop down list. One of the options should be delete.

I have over 50 designs that are still there, you can still keep these in fusion if you want. The limit is on editable designs, you can have 10 editable designs. But if you make your existing ones "Read-Only" you then will have space for 10 editable ones. Any of the older ones can be made "Editable" at any time by making one of your new designs read only to keep within the 10 limit

Ah , the penny has finally dropped ... & rolled right out the door .

Seriously I eventually managed to delete everything off the cloud as intended . It was rather slow due to the internet being heavily congested ( Perhaps the reason things crashed previously ?)

I didn't know about retaining sleeping designs many thanks for that , I'd just been deleting them in slow motion
This double dose of COVID I've had and the subsequent long covid after shocks has really emptied the old necktop computer data banks ..... I'm having to relearn all sorts of things . Still it keeps me out of trouble.

Based on a discussion in these forums it seemed like a few members are thinking about getting a 3D Printer.
An Anet A8 was suggested based on price so i bit the bullet and grabbed a working modded machine.
I have suggested a sub section for 3D printing but its not clear enough demand exists so i though i would start a thread of on the Anet A8 and see how many others are interested.

Btw the guy i purchased it off wanted the money to fund a mig welder..... ironic really.

I got an Anet A8 a few years back. One of the first things I did was change firmware to Repieter because of the overheating issue (fires). I use Prusa slicer as it has a lot refinements. Repetier Host front end because peculiarities with protocols.
Made a new carriage for it.

Bought a 2nd one just for the components to build one around new board. Parts were much cheaper. Hopefully yours aren't.

Functional, accurate, strong prints require a much better printer and more consistant filament than cosmetic stuff does.
If you can't get a good finish you're not going to have strong, accurate parts.

Most of the issue with bonding layers is filament temperature and speed. I've only every used PLA, so can't comment on the 'exotics'. Moisture in the filament is another killer (as I found out over years) I rarely use it nowadays as the novelties worn off.
