Hi Malvern....yes I did. Never seen the actual sculpture so spent a long time studying pics then designed all the (lots of) separate pieces on the PC and cut them out using the plasma CNC. Didn't want an exact copy so parts of it are different but the same basic ratio/scale. I've made quite a few weird and wonderful things over the years but the CNC is a magical tool that I love using more and more!!

Impressive. Well done on both the sculpture and the CNC machine.

Since I tolerate the original regularly, it is not a favourite.

The orientation of the wings is my problem. Had they been pulled forward and down slightly, the whole impression would have been one of welcoming rather than 'this big'

Hi CRB...thanks for your comment. Not having seen the original 'in the flesh' I read up as much as I could. The sculptor did in fact angle the wings forward 3.5 degrees to 'give a sense of embrace' but it's not enough. As you comment, it does look like a bragging fisherman...and I understand that locally it's known as the Gateshead Flasher!

We have booked a couple of nights in Chester Le Street in March so we can explore the NE area...somewhere I have never been...and go see the statue for myself....looking forward to it.
