I use them a lot and find they are just as safe, if not more so than the smaller grinders, well if used properly. I couldn't use a petrol saw for the stuff I do, would never get it into the places required.I hate 9" grinders if I have to cut something big its the petrol saw always so much safer, ever since my brother in law had a good attempt at cutting his leg off with one a few years back I avoid if possible. The one time I had too was on my second welding table which is a 2ftX3ft bit of 1" plate I used a dished grinding disc full contact to clean up the surface it was very scary
