I am taking all your advise, but i am still wondering why they sell them if they are unsafe, was the one you used a proper blade made for a grinder or a circular saw blade ?

The one in the video has 3 teeth, that might be the difference between safe and unsafe ?

I think an angle grinder would spin those blades far too fast, if the blade started shedding teeth, they'd hit you like bullets.

Motorcycles are unsafe, we all know people killed and smashed up off them, they are still for sale though.

safety is subjective...when these blades are tested tey are done so in certain environments, very dry wood, no chance of foreign bodies such as nails etc, probably done in a jig when there is no human interaction...if that is the case then these must be safe by proxy as no one has ever been injured during testing...

the fact is that everyone on here is telling you to avoid them, and for good reason. you may buy one and never have any sort of injury from them, but there is a far greater chance of you injuring yourself with that blade than if you used a specific tool designed to use those types of blades (at lower RPM's)

no one likes to be told that their idea is not worth following, i have been told similar on here many times, and after carrying on and doing it anyway i always ended up wishing i had just taken the advice and not gone ahead with it

I think that's just a dust extractor, the Arbortech is sold for use with your normal grinder guard.

I've used an Arbortech in the past which I bought in Australia [it's natural home] many years ago. It's a completely different part of speech from the type of blade you linked to and was design to perform a different function - i.,e. shaping wood as opposed to digging in and cutting it. Even so, the A/Tech needed firm control and would eat your house if you didn't have proper control over it.

You appear determined to have a go with your idea - well you might get away with it once, even twice then you get blase and believe nothing is ever going to go wrong and that's when Sods Law will spring from the shadows and get you. Not one other contributor has suggested you'll be OK, but crack on chap.......

Bear in mind too that pallets are often wet/damp through storage conditions and the blade is more likely to snag......

The one I was using had been taken off A circular saw. It was not that that bothered me, I had no concerns that the blade may shatter because it was on the angle grinder instead.

What was concerning was being only inches away from the lethal blade, and knowing what could happen if or when it snagged.
Wondering whether it said 'for use on an angle grinder' or not didn't really come into it.

Our heating, cooking, and hot water is 100% pallet driven.

My current 'easiest' way is one of those pronged demolition / breaker bars, and then a compound mitre saw.

The mitre saws blade died the other day, when I hit a hinge... (OK, 99.99% pallet, 0.01% door) and so I've had to use the hand held circular saw (like the evolution one pictured earlier in the thread)

Not only is it WAY more likely to cause injury, its also much more tireing to use.

I'd really suggest a cheap compound mitre (not a sliding one, just a basic hinged one) - mine is just some unknown brand, cost me a fiver, used, with the blade. (and now a new blade is going to cost me way more than that!)

With all due repect to Arbotech, the blades were pretty useless when they first came on the market moons ago. The specs say they are rated to 15,000 RPM. In my defence I have watched competant wood carvers using nothing more than a chain saw, would I recommend you to try it---NO. Would I do it even with 50 years wood working and machining experience in a working environment. NO

Have you tried to control an angle grinder with one hand and experienced the Gyroscopic action, or tried one handed control of a very powerfull 3 Hp Router with a big diam bit in it?? These are big boys toys and are 30,000 RPM.

So again dont try it. However--not knowing I`m on about the blades intended for CARVING not cutting wood up. Two different bits of equipment. Did Chronos not take over Arbotech??

Maybe so, but you're not talking about using an A/Tech, are you?

In any event, the original A/Tech wasn't at all like your linked blades, quite different. If you can imagine the end of a chainsaw blade and chain made round, that's it.

For cutting up pallets safely I would recommend a cordless or mains reciprocating saw with a "demolition" blade, or, if you can find one, a Dewalt DW390 "Alligator" saw, which has dual reciprocating blades.
