Mr Strada that is brilliant, a Common Black Devil, Melanocetus Johnsonni.
You great eye for bits of trash, something I really struggle with.
Shame that in real life she is only about 5" long.
The angler fish are just like people.
The female does all the work, she can bite of more than she can chew, she carries around her parasitic husband (he taps into her blood) for one purpose only and she can dump him whenever he likes. He then has to find another female to survive. they also sometimes have multiple husbands.
They should be an icon for the feminist movement.

He could have based it on the Lophius side of the family where they can grow to 1.5m long and 1m long specimens are common

Decided to have a go at one of these scary looking fish
Made out of scrap stuff old chain,spocket,threaded bar etc,,,the eyes are glass beads pressed in to some copper tube.
I love it!
You gave me inspiration to get out in my garage and try my hand at making an Angler-Fish yesterday.
My first one. I thought of putting actual LEDs in the eyes and lure. I could braze on some 3/16" brake line for the illicium and run some small wire through it. Maybe.

Back lit? How would you do that?
I'm not sure what to do next. Maybe a 'comical' angler fish.
Ever since "Finding Nemo" came out I have wanted to make one like it.
There is a local artist here that makes huge Marlins that stand about 7 feet tall and look like they are leaping out of the water.
they are on display at a local gallery in Destin, and have price tags of about $7000.00. I know they sell too because they are never the same ones when I go there. He uses some kind of colored stain or lacquer on them that lets you still see the metal underneath. Do you know what that would be?

I think they could well be made from stainless steel and then heated with a torch to give different colours in the steel,blues ,yellows etc,,,, they look fantastic,
The backlit fish seem simple ( I think ) LOL
My idea is just to make 1 side of the fish and then put LEDS on the inside of the fish ,hang it slightly away from the wall and the fish will be back lit.
There is a better picture of a backlit fish somewhere ,I just cant find it,gives you the idea though.
The other fish ( rooster fish I think ) is stainless heated with a torch.

Mmmm coloured clear paint,is it coloured or clear ? Lol . Cant say i know of the stuff,are you sure its not done with a torch.
The fish i have done in the past pike/pirahna etc ive just shaped over a piece of wood,i make them in 2 halfs then weld them up.There are pics of the pike etc..further down the page in sculpture section.
P.s Wolfgang the above pics were not made by me,just an example of backlit/ heated stainless.

Chunkolini or Chunko' never anything else.....be warned !!
I have seen some people use different solutions to create metal coloured effects but the majority of the time its just heated to get the colour, and then sealed to maintain the colour.
