Just an observation on the role of shielding gas composition. I have found that for a given WFS and voltage tap setting, it's rather easier to get a fully established spray transfer when using a leaner gas; i.e. with a lower CO2 content. For instance, when using Argoshield Light, and 1.0 mm wire, I have consistently got a very smooth, very hot spray, albeit the puddle is a little too fluid for my liking/skill level. When using Aroshield Heavy, all other setting remaining the same, you find yourself a wee bit lower down in the spray transfer region. There is also a corresponding impact on the current.
