Another struggling beginner... :(

Tried some 0.8 wire today, still about the same.

So then i had a go with my dad's 100A gasless welder on the same metal, at the same time, took about 2 mins setting up then worked fine. So it's definitely my welder.

(i'm assumming it can't be the gas causing the problem? As i've tried everything else??)

Does sound like a diode went. You'll need to disconnect them and check with a meter.

I've emailed the seller, just waiting for a reply.

It's got a 1 year warrenty, so should be fine.

A little update to my troubles...

So... The welder went back to Sealey, who returned it saying it has been tested and working to its spec.

I tried it again and had the same problem. So then i tried gasless, and it worked ok (eventhough the weld looks horrible).

When changing from gasless to gas, i changed polarity, wire and tip, using C02 gas (disposable bottle and mini regulator).

Any ideas what could cause the gas to stop the weld penetrating properly?? I'm stumped..

I know sealey have said that the welder is running fine but tbh I think thats bull. The gasless welding isn't up to any sort of standard you'd be happy with and even at home on 240v the thing isn't welding right. I'd want my money back and buy another make from a welding company, trouble is that is easier said than done! I'm no spark and I may be off base but some electrical equipment doesn't like being run off generators and this could just be making the problem worse. You've been a bit unlucky there, hope you get it sorted out.

Edit : Just remembered that you said you bought it off ebay, which is lucky for you. Complain about it via ebay and ask for your money back and you will get a refund. Ebay's has a new unoffical policy of always siding with the buyer and giving full refunds regardless of fault. Myself and other friends have been caught on the wrong side of that by dodgy buyers before. Plus as its ebay it could be badged as a sealey welder but a dodgy fake.

I switched the gas bottle from CO2 to CO2/Argon mix and now it penetrates

No idea why, but seems to work.
