Any Arc welding tips out there for galvanised pipe?

It's scary when you see what a decent mask catches, I always wear one now, I hate to think what I have breathed in over the years. The welders at work use airfed from a back mounted rechargeable filter box, I'm just a hobby welder so I can't justify that sort of kit.
