Only ever seen them second hand on Ebay. Lorch Schweiss I think the old ones are. Being German you would imagine them to be good. Initial price and spares back up along with of course performance.........these are the questions.
Alex
Lorch where formed in germany in 1957, and where a small family run business until a take over by management several years ago, who have now embarked on a global expansion programme. Today Lorch have a 15% market share in germany and are one of the few manufactures increasing sales and production. Lorch manufacture machines for the likes of Esab and Thermal arc.
The saprom machine is probably the easiest synergic pulse mig welder to set up and use at the quality end of the market, competing with Fronius, kemppi, Migatronic etc.
When you purchase one of these machines you purchase it for the results that come out of the torch and not the name, the Lorch machine is definitley up there with the best. machines are warrantied for 3 years, spares guaranteed for 10 yrs after out of production.

Now that's a great sales pitch! The German's do make so crap aswell you know!... not talking about Lorch. Not very active within the UK market place, although I'm sure they have their niche in industry, it won't mean a thing to most users of this site.

The Saprom S range is the latest digital Pulsed mig/mag welding range from Lorch. It has synergic lines already built in for welding most filler wires developed for todays industry but for an example, it has no problem welding Steel, CrNi's Aluminiums, Flux'd wires and also can be used for Mig Brazing.
On most wire types, welding can be carried out as low as 26 Amps, which would roughly equate to 0.6mm sheet.
Complete with the package, the machine comes with a power-master torch, which means parameters can be accessed/changed via the torch handle. The machine also has a memory for storing/retrieving up too 100 of your favorite settings.
Sorry I forgot to add, it certainly was the case that Lorch wasn't very well known/active within the UK market, but 3 years ago Lorch UK was established. To date there are around 25 dealers throughout the UK offering the full range of 56 lorch products.
Its also worth noting that the Lorch brand is now 50 years old this year, so they are most definately not a newcomer to the industry.

right then- my boss has just purchased two saprom 3 to weld stainless steel and it is the worst thing he has ever done. i have been welding at a high standard for over 20 years and these thing are crap for quality work. they would be ok for heavy jobs where distortion does not matter i.e 10mm+ austenitic stainless for structural purposess.
the things are a nightmare to try and set up. i have a load of electrical qualifications, ie 2320, 2360, 2381, and 2391. for welding you dont have to know what they mean but ask any sparky and they will tell you I have more than a basic understanding of electricity so my comments are more than valid and the thing are so complicated to set up it is beyond me!
If you want to weld stainless steel faster and to a high standard the look for an automated TIG welder. i have seen a few of these at weldex and they are the bizzz.
the problem with the lorch plant is that it wants to bang a lot of current into a weld so you get loads of distortion and you DO get spatter with them no matter what anyone tells you so cleaning the spatter off kills any advantage you may have gained
TIG welding manually takes time but its what your customers really wanted and you will get repeat orders
With lorch i am doing 1 job a day, i can tig four. nuff said
Electrical qualifications (impressive as I am sure they are) doesn't mean anything regarding too how to set up a machine etc.........was you ever showed how to set up the machines?
Well Bombhead, you was fast enough to bad mouth the products, why don't you atleast give me chance to see if I can come over and make a better impression?
I will find out who it is tomorrow anyway from my distributors, he's based in the Midlands and I already have a fair idea, from the fact they bought two.
I don't mind anyone moaning and everyone is entitled to an opinion, but there are ways and means of going about things.
If it was as bad as he is experiencing now, then they wouldn't of bought them in the first place. It will be a case of something has changed, he's new to the machines, or whatever it is and all of sudden there complete **** machines.
