When I bang me head, I get an instant rage on - absolute blind fury! When I was younger, whatever I had in my hand would usually get launched.

As an apprentice for the MOD, I was working in the sonar dome of a Type 42 Frigate doing up the gland nuts on a big junction box with a hefty adjustable spanner. I stood up and hit my head real hard on a steel ladder, and immediately threw the spanner as hard as I could - it bounced off every steel surface in sight and very luckily missed the fibreglass shell of the dome.

As soon as it left my hand I realised my mistake, and had visions of sinking the ship right there in No 2 basin in Chatham Dockyard! It was either the Phoebe or the Hermione - can't remember which!

I still do the same and swear and shout like fu....

Try living in a mobile home for a while if your over 6ft and catching the top of your head hard as you go through the door. It just draws a line of blood.
And you never learn especially if your trying to keep a good posture due to a bad back.

Rather than a hard hat, consider one of those smaller "safety bump caps"; cheap, look on ebay.

The bumps which are worst are those which peel a small flap of skin back - try folding that back neatly when you're on your own, it can be a 2 X mirror job.

I smack my head regularly, I bought a bump cap, then forget to wear it. I find it useful if I’m led down doing something under the car, you can use it as a sort of pillow to save your neck trying to keep your head out of the dirt.

Does anyone remember the Moby Hat? I can't find any online reference now, too much rubbish on the web. A BS rated flat cap possibly made by Stadium, very popular with the trials brigade and can still be worn, as I understand it, on a motorbike.

I'm 6'5" my head is covered in bumps and scars - worst ever incident was in a supermarket they had a cardboard sign hanging a bit low. I walked under it and it slit my head open like it was a scalpel blood everywhere, I then fainted on the floor which didn't help!

Amazing what you can do with super glue and masking tape - I can never be bothered getting stitches, think i got told off last time for taking the stitches out myself following an accident with a kindling axe...hand not head though. I take after my dad, when he had his nose broken for the second time, the bone was sticking out, so he paired it down with a razor blade to allow the skin to grow back over it

I'm 6'6" (1.98 m) so am nicely calibrated to the height of door frames... until I put a pair of shoes on.

Suffice to say my head always has lumps and bumps where I've banged my head on something or other. Once I was staying at my parents house and the phone rang at the other end of the house. Normally I could walk through the doors without paying much attention, but I foolishly ran for the phone. My head hit the lintel, my legs kept going and I ended up flat on my back. Ow.

Another bump today, this time working in the engine bay of a 1994 mini and got the bonnet catch. This time drew blood and a few sweat words.

Its not like I've not spent enough time under the bonnet of a Mini I should know better
