Any using an Air Saw - any good?

I do alot of cer rust repairs on my own cars. I have Grinders and a dremil which do most of my cutting. I also have a cut off wheel, sawzall and plasma cutter.

I have been looking at cheap air sales like this one:



I am thinking it might be good if you have fine cutting to do around a cill or similar. In inaccessible areas etc.

Do any members use these type of saws? Are they any good? If they burn up blades and are a PITA to use I'll probably leave it.

Blades:- just use shortened hacksaw blades.
Saw works nicely depending on application.Wouldn't use it on thick metal but good where you can't get a grinder in or need a bit of finesse.

Useful tools when needed, I used mine to cut the remains of the plastic bumper off so I could get better access to deal with the rusted fixings.

What size is your compressor. they are air hungry

Use bimetal blades, grind back of blade to allow tighter radius and cut friction

200L SIP 3hp plenty of air good that way

Do you use hacksaw blades? Not the little air saw blades you can buy? Is that because they are expensive for what they are?

Tried a few Cengar was the only one

Bit gutless, and as said air hungry. Handy when nothing else will do

Thanks for the replies I will look to get one of these soon. I would like a small one for getting into tight areas under a car. Sealey premier is probably what I'll go for

Those ones seem pro level. Also large and expensive. I have an M18 Sawzal so in this case I am looking for a very small and cheap air saw for light automotive bodywork. Nothing more. It'll get used once in a blue moon too.

I've got the Snap-on air saw and it works well enough, have cut swingarm spindles out with it in the past!.

I use half a hacksaw blade in mine.

Never cut sheet metal with it mind, but it did come with some narrow blades.

I've one and it works ok.
I use hacksaw blades and if I need to cut a tight curve I grind them down.

You cant beat Cengar Air saws. Bimetal hacksaw blades cut down with tin snips. Otherwise it will spend more time nipping up.


Oil regularly.

I have a Cengarette, it was used a lot.
I use all hard blades.

I went for one of these which is Sealey brand and more importantly for my intended use its very compact to get into tight areas in a car chassis.



I have an air cut off saw and air file sander coming too. Now I have a proper compressor I am really liking air tools!

I will give this a try as soon as it turns up and report back findings. Besides car bodywork I'm thinking it might also be handy for cutting seized car exhaust bolts etc.

I bought a cheap one in Lidl that sat unused until I had to do a weld repair on my 306. Couldn't get access with a grinder, my sawzall was too big but my air saw was perfect.
Using hacksaw blades is great for cutting something off flush to a panel as they flex nicely as the saw is running.

theres a bigger geared version too , like a small sawsall quite a bit more expensive and a little bit bigger but still mighty handy.

Air saw to me - is the tool "of last resort" if I can't get a grinder in to severe a bolt/fixing on a vehicle.

Only thing I do use them for and they are good for this - is cutting apertures in bumpers when fitting towbars.
