Hello all, new on here, wondering if you guys can help I got given a brit tool torque wrench I took it apart to clean it up reassembled it and now the knurled handle does not adjust the torque, it just spins freely, the bar at the end still adjusts torque, I cant work out how to get the handle working again.

I can't help you with that but I don't understand this:
Classic Mechanical Torque Wrench – Non-Length Dependant
Unlike most other torque wrenches, the mechanism pivots around
the square drive. This gives the major advantage in that the
torque wrench is not length dependant. As a result there is
no variation to the application of the preset torque value,
no matter where the handle is grasped.
Now colour me stupid but surely if you grip the handle further from the end it just means you have to pull harder than if you gripped it right at the end? What difference does that make to the setting mechanism?

sounds as if either the thread has stripped ( unlikely ) or it has not started in the thread correctly.

The Britool torque wrench I've got you never have been able to adjust by turning the knurled part, it just spins freely as you say. Mines over 40 years old, the only difference being you have to use a tommy bar in the hole at the end instead of the tommy bar being part of the wrench. It sounds to me the swivelling bit was stuck & you've freed it, so it's now as the manufacturer made it.
If it didn't swivel, you could inadvertently change the torque setting as you used it

no the torque wrench I ve got definitely was adjustable with the knurled handle it clearly moved up and down the scale and the force exerted on the torque wrench would b affected after the torque had been adjusted with the knurled handle but it still works with the bar so I guess I ll just b using the bar from now on
