anyone use a portable gas heater at home?

I have a Super-Ser type of thing purely for when the power goes off. I'd rather have some heat and the risk of some slight condensation than be brass monkeyed.
I don't use it otherwise, as it's not something I'm keen on for the above reasons given by many other posters.

To the OP.

Pence per KW - you would be better off with an oil filled radiator with a thermostat on it.

Dryer cleaner heat - no carting bottles about as well.

In general. Oil looks favourable at the moment. Cost wise! We have a gas central heating at home.

I have also a gas fire in the front room - but have opened up the other fireplace - bought one of these.

Introduced my grandchildren to fire - coal - collecting wood - chopping wood - kindling - newspapers - roasted chesnuts - dust to keep the fire in over night. Also I burnt the hearth rug the other week - wifey reckons her Mother used to hate cleaning out fires and lighting them.

I quite enjoyed collecting some free wood when I can find it. Maybe a decent hobby in retirement?

They would. When you live in a house with no central heating or suchlike, those things can make the difference between being comfortable, or freezing your knacks off.

Agreed. The one that I was given by @Cobbler when I moved to this place was all I had. Even now it is in occasional use in the workshop. By contrast, the two oil filled radiators that I have appear to be very inefficient.
