Well made it through the night, eyes are fine, no issues at all, think I've been very lucky
Cheers for advice.
Are you typing on the sherbet Kent?
We believe you your poison of choice doesn’t!
Take a break from welding and post some pics of the job. Would be interesting to see.
Arc eye has no written rules as it’s all dependent on the level of exposure. I’ve had it a few times nearly always from someone else’s arc.
Generally it comes to haunt you around 4-8hrs after the flash
Depending on severity can last up to 2 full days before it starts to clear up. Most cases You’ll feel a bit better by the next morning.
Starts off with itchy eyes, followed by streaming tears and sensitivity to light. By the time it’s fully set in you will be in excruciating pain and your eyes will feel like you’ve rubbed a hand full of sand in them.
There is no remedy for it other than time. You’ll hear the old damp tea bags crap been talked about by welders but it doesn’t work.
It will be a long sleepless night if you’ve got it.
Its not too bad....after the first ones it doesnt sting at all.....cataract surgery thats how I knowI’ve heard those drops really sting when they go in?
4000 days....really....thats dreadful....Is it arc eye or something else?Just bumped into this older thread looking around the forum.
People might think arc eye isn't so bad; it'll only last about 2 days... well for a different reason I have had similar symptoms for approx 4,000 days as of writing. Never take your eyes for granted, and always be mindful of the damage your work may be doing to them. Damage and the consequences can be permanent.

Chronic dry eye, had about 11 years now. Similar symptoms to arch eye; eye strain, impaired focus, grittiness, pain, etc. I caused it when I burned part of my eye away through computer use in a dark environment.
I think it's true that prolonged computer use can speed up deterioration of peoples eye sight, I've certainly noticed that trend in myself. I've used computers most days since leaving school and my eye sight as deteriorated somewhat.
My chronic dry eye was caused by prolonged exposure to CRT monitors in a badly lit environment; although everyone needs to be mindful when using visual display equipment as we quickly fall into a patern of not blinking enough and that combined with keeping our eyes focused at the same distance and area for prolonged periods of time isn't healthy for our eyes.
I had something very similar.
I was strimming a garden without goggles when a little bit went in my eye. Didn't hurt at all but the next day I was in agony.
I saw 3 different docs - all clueless when it comes to eyes.
Symptoms were the same as bad arc eye. Absolute agony.
It turned out it was RCE or recurrent corneal erosion. Imagine a paper cut that never heals on the eye. More severe damage is better as then the eye heals itself. The cure is they stab you in the eye with a needle to cause real damage!!!
I was given lacrilube which is basically vaseline along with other eye drops. i had to train myself to not open my eyes in the morning but flood them first.
Lasted about 6 years - much better now but have to be careful still.
I found in the end that the cheapest saline eyewash in my eyes last thing at night and first thing in the morning helped the most.
Eye problems are awful; so easy to not wear protection for a small/quick job, but doing so can bite you in the butt!
Glasses are good for general walking around the work shop offering protection against general dust, arcs and sparks at a distanceI've been wearing safety glasses while cutting/grinding for a while
