its more about the operators trying different gear then the operators skill. I think certain operators will be happy with what they can achieve using something that didn't cost 40 notes out of aldi, and it would be intersting to see what experienced operators can do using gear that did come from aldi.
I'm up for it Malc! Cambridge isn't too far from me and I could bring my little stick inverter (Messer Griesheim pic140)
Pre-Christmas I'm away 13th-17th Dec and post 2nd - 9th Jan but any other time is ok I think. I'm not an experienced welder but happy to have a go and anyone is welcome to try my welder. I reckon it could be an interesting and fun day.
We'll probably have to keep this one very small. It's looking like we'll be descending on a member's workshop to take advantage of his kit and location, but there's not going to be much space so only one person welding at any one time. Hopefully we already have a beginner, an intermediate and a pro. And George of course.
I think we're nearing a plan. Looking like 18th Jan could be a possibility but I'll need to do some more messaging.
Though Matt's meet up (maybe March ish) could be a good time for all of us to meet.
If there's room for one more, South Cambs works for me (assuming I have permission from Mrs. Mishka I could either bring the Castolin inverter, or an ancient 110A Ferrous AC buzz-box (although it doesn't so much buzz, more like hum "The Rhyme of the Ancient Welder") if you want to see (and attempt to lift) an air-cooled welder with 100% duty cycle.
....if you fancy a drive to Norfolk my big ole studio would accommodate quite a few (and I have 3 phase if it were needed). I'm between Diss and Thetford...
I'd love to drive to Norfolk and meet up. Hoping to at some point with the excuse of that steering wheel.
Though Oxfords don't travel well (or at least the vehicles underneath them don't travel well after being squashed). Just at the moment we are thinking of Snowy, George and myself meeting with aero's Oxford in a small corner of his single garage on 18th January. I suspect 4 people will already be too many (I can stand outside if necessary) and I don't want to impose further.
Though another meet at Ratty's place would be brill. Do you have a date in mind?
It does sound like an excellent idea. We've failed completely to have any forum meets in the last 4 years, so we ought to have a few this year to make up. Might also manage one here this summer if I can clear the workshop out.
What theme would you fancy? Your party. Your rules too.
For a date we've got the ultimate arc challenge in the cold at the end of Jan, and the meet with Matt to try out Lorches at the end of March maybe. Rest of the year is free.
Malcolm it is very possible had we somewhere nice and central in the UK and nice a big. you could no doubt organise a serious size welding festival. I bet a few dealers would jump at the chance to showoff there guy. But its a lot of organsing
