I've watched loads of You Tube videos on arc welding over the last few month. I think they were all American. They say things like "go down to your local hardware store and pick up a few cartons of different types of electrode to experiment with". One of them, Chucke2009 is pretty dismissive of 6013 - saying they're not much good for anything except learning the basics.
I thought it would be interesting to try some 6011, for example. But they only seem to be available from the US, with postage costs of about £30.
Also, several people have told me to get some decent quality 6013 electrodes, such as Murex, or Bohler, rather than the Super6 I'm using. But even they don't seem to be generally available - I'd certainly need to order them online.
So, is arc welding less common here than in the States for some reason?
