Bought my dad a cheap QCTH, the worm and barrel type which was ok but I’ve just been reading that they’re not that good so I’ll keep my eyes open for a wedge type.

what size lathe you got?

It’s the Atlas 10F TV36. 36 inch bed, 10-1/4 inch

At the moment, anything really. Don’t want to spend a fortune so probably a copy of something reasonable. Been thinking of getting something off Ali Express but it takes at least a month to arrive or sometimes a lot more.

Are the Dixon type ones listed for Emco Unimat suitable for the Atlas or would they be too small?

Put something over the ways / under the grinder, the flying carp makes a right mess of "precision" surfaces! Oily rag always worked OK for me.
That's a good way to do circlip grooves in feckinard and similar materials, too! I have some bearing outer races needing circlip grooves as part of my QCGB renovations...

Bad idea. Good if you want to use the saddle to lap the ways away.

I did actually purchase the Dixon type QCTP.

I had to make a different T slot nut and tapped it 10mm before making a 11.4mm sleeve with 10mm bore to make it fit.
Tool post was about £100 with 5 holders.
