Depends what bit breaks.
If its the power side of things then it'll just stay dark, if it's the sensors then you'll get bird **** in front of your eyes for a while!
I've always been able to force mine to trip with a R63 spot bulb, so as a result I check it before I start each job (not really welding regularly anymore).
