wolf spares
I needed a part for my Sons compressor, wolf, fortunately the broken part had a number on it, google job and hey presto - Sealy did the exact same part,its used on an almost identical compressor, one phone call to Sealy and it arrived next day. Could possibly have used Machine mart as well.
Theres a remote possibility this comapny may help on Wolf spares, fortunately I didnt need to try them

That compressor is only £183.31 without the vat, that in my opinion is firmly in the realms of the "throw away" type of unit, I remember when compressors were nearer to the thousands of £, thats why every home mech used to try or had to build their own. For the price of a weekend on the lash, you cant in reality go wrong at that price can you.

Thanks for all the advice, replies and comments. I am still unsure on what to do.
I have been ebay trawling and I have another quick question,
If I bought a 3phase compressor which had a knackered motor, could I then use the single phase motor off my compressor to power it, or does the motor on a belt driven compressor run slower?
Am I chasing a rainbow with that idea?
Also does 100 l/min convert to 3.5 cfm? or have I got that wrong?

The motors on belt driven compressors tend to run at about 1400rpm, check the plate on your motor to see what yours runs at. If you motor runs faster you can change the pulley, but fitting a smaller pulley could give rise to issues over the belt slipping.
You can fit a single phase motor in place of a 3 phase providing speed and power are the same (and if it will physically fit).
With your motor there may be issues over fitting a pulley, does it have a plain shaft?

OK, so I am going to give the wolf air a miss, after going to countless shops around Birmingham and getting conflicting advice, I am completely confused.
I don’t think I will bother with getting a 3 phase unit and converting it, basically I don’t know enough about it and fear it will be a hiding to expensive-ville.
So I turn to the wise folks on here for some sound advice.
My basic requirements are as follows, I do a bit of shot blasting, run some small air tools die grinder and air saw and the like. I might want to do some spraying in the future but that’s only a possibility.
I don’t use it 8 hours a day, it is only a hobby type use. I do have my original 50 litre receiver I can use to expand any compressor I buy, but do I need to include this is my plans?
So what do I need with regards to HP, cfm's and receiver size?
I have a very quick read through the sticky about buying compressors at the top of this section and it says that shot blating requires 300+ cfm. Is that aimed at industrial aplications?

Thats very similar to one I am looking at, but funds wont quite stretch that far at the mo, getting married next month.
Last thought on this one, if I take the heads off both cylinders, can I run the compessor for a short time to check if the imbalance is in the pistons or if its in the valves as suggested by the snooper or is this a daft idea?

if you have cecked everything mechanical ie bearings, rings gudgeon pins through the pistons then it doesnt leave much else but uneven compression
