It's about 87 kg so just thinking of not doing that moon flight I was planning tonight so I have enough about me to lift it into the truck tomorrow for galv trip

My thoughts too, but if that is what the customer wants.Not keen on that... not very well balanced with the collars/twists/baskets seemingly in some sort of semi random order

I have to say it's anything but random
It runs middle twist then double collar through. The client wanted a few baskets to be picked out in full gold lacquer so these are dead centre and at both corners
So nothing is randomly placed.
To be fair it's not easy to get a good photo in the shop without a light background but as it's like 87 kg and an awkward size to carry I wasn't putting it outside against my wall like I often do.
Will post a picture of it fitted and painted. The client requested to gold baskets to match some existing work
The arrangement of the bars also from samples but random it's not

Perhaps. I thought that at first but the paint finish requested should lift that part right out. So This won't be an issue when it's fitted with the intersection of the French doors at this point and the three baskets picked out in gold and all the rest black
The sat inside looking out at the garden might bug me if that didn't look right because the doors will be closed 99% of the year.
The spacings are 87 mm openings and building regs stipulate 100 max centres so you have so many bars to put in
Get the point though I had to get the wife and eldest daughter to eye it up at one stage but the proof will be in the painted and fitted item
Either way if the customer commits to a design that is what they get unless there's a technical issue
Personally I like very simple and classic style in ironwork

Well the layout may well be mathematically sound, but I have to say it looks odd and out of balance.
But as others have said if that's what they wanted then so be it.

I think what the others are saying, is from the central basket going right could have gone, double collar then twist, double collar then twist, double collar then twist, last double collar then basket.
The middle basket is central being 9 from each end, so just lends it self to a mirror format from that point. That way even if turned upside down it would be the same.

If it was for my home I should design it very different
If any of the critics want to pay me above a grand like the client has then they can have exactly what they want
Personally I don't mind it as the baskets are meant to give a nod to what exists already I think fair enough they are either end and central and everything else works out fine

Depends on the weight you take from 50 p a kg.
I generally pay a bit more but drop it at another shop that do s weekly run. As it's a 30 mile journey for us with s choice of heywood or Bradford.
At 40 p a mile x60 twice over 120 miles total plus the time I need good reason to take a load myself
Drop Monday morning collect Thursday afternoon and less than 20 miles each way 40 total and tye it in with other stuff
Got a lot on presently that might get s direct trip when I calculate the two costs

Fair enough, I assume you have a sliding scale for the galv the more you have the cheaper down to a point for tonnage.
It gives me an idea of costs. there is a fab shop close to me I must ask the question one day, but for now an idea of cost is all I need.

Off a template board. Wait for resin to cure and place backplates onto the studs. Pop a few nuts on shorten for cap heads

It depends on the weight your taking in that load and if you want transport.
Moving it is the biggest cost. If I just have one job to send to be honest I drop it at another fabrication place as they send two loads a week. I pay more per kg then as they want a tickle but save on time and travelling
The above firm gets far better rates than either of us by far
To be frank I roughly know what an item is likely to cost by looking at it so like you have to I just mark it up and take the rough with the smooth
Wedge heywood or wedge Bradford are both about an hour door to door from me
We used to have independent galv firms at both Blackburn and Bolton both were better at the job now we have no great choice and wedge have no great competition
