Batricar Serene 36V with a fault.

Despite my protestations, I am now a reluctant owner of a 16 year old mobility scooter. I'm told that it had a new set of batteries installed and was successfully used three times. During the fourth, it stopped dead and could not be made to run again. Batteries are fully charged and apparently 36V appears at the control box.

I know nothing whatever about these things but would clearly enhance its value if I could get it working. Online searches achieve nothing, apparently they only made 25 of them and there is no information available whatever. I checked with Batricar who again could not even offer me a user manual. I am reluctant to strip it for parts.

What shall I do with it?

Anyone know this machine and has some information?

Would have to pull the electrics and just check for something silly.

May just be dry joint or something.

I am looking to repair it for resale because I assume that it is worthless otherwise, unless broken and the new batteries sold off etc. I really don't want to do that.

Think some mobility units have an "over current" resettable trip but would not know where on that unit.

There may only have been 25 made of this particular model, but my guess would be the control electronics will have been adapted from other models. Asking for the schematics of a different vehicle might prove helpful.

Does it 'flash' a code on the dashboard at all? Does it have a 'wig wag' direction control? I've kept my other half's scooter going when a Mobility shop said it was scrap 7 years ago. Start by pulling all of the spade connectors off and put them back on. Check for a voltage at ther motor brake. No volts, the brakes do not release. The ECU will not allow the 36V higher ampd to the motors.

Drop test the batteries as well.

There seat sensor may be at fault. Or one of the other safety switches.

Not your machine but it might be a requirement/standard fit/protection.

We had a moby scooter that dud thus, turned out that electric brake had a layer of rust in it, and when I stripped cleaned and rebuilt it it worked like a charm! They run very close tolerance and a bit of warm up was enough to make it lock on!

He did say that the brakes came on and wouldn't release without the freewheel latch taking off.

None, 16 years old, N/A, Will do.

Interesting, How does this work, because the owner said that it applied the brake when it died and wouldn't release?

I haven't had time to play as yet, it is dumped in my yard where the transport wagon left it.

That's interesting. It is the 24V version.

Yes, the controller did have a name on it that I can't recall. Useful trail to follow of course, even if the programming is different.
