Battery grease gun

Right I striped down the check valve and thoroughly cleaned the area nothing untoward.

I then slightly stretched the check valve spring, it's back pumping.

But the gearbox clicks loudly every cycle.


But I was pleased to be able to get it running just ahead of greasing a machine

Mine clicks with every pump but worried now because clicks don't seem as loud.

I got a (s/h) Sealey air grease gun for about a fiver a couple of years back.
It's great. For sure a powered grease gun is makes the job so much easier (main job for mine is the regular greasing of my LDV's Kingpins that's required to fend off the awful job of replacing them for as long as possible, if ever!).
I didn't even know you could get battery powered ones - but I don't need to use one often enough to justify changing from my air one anyway.

Kind of viewed battery grease guns as not really worth it for me but after using four cartridges doing the 2CX alone in one hit (christ there are a lot of grease points on that thing) I am seriously reconsidering it.

For the Milwaukee users any preference to M18 or M12?

I've got both battery platforms so doesn't bother me. Irregular use as it's only a small compact tractor and flail for mowing lawns, the 2CX which admittedly has a crap ton of points and a couple of Land Rover bits.

I’ve the m12, think it’s the same pressure as the m18. Near as damn it anyway.

The m18 has more control - you can adjust the number of pumps etc.

I am happy with my m12. It’s done dozens of cartridges of EP3

Tempted to get a second to put different grease in as swapping them is a pain.

Lucky if I manage a whole tube these days!

Never been that impressed with the m18 gear. The M12 is fantastic though.

But I've mostly got DeWalt 18v gear 1 dead battery on 10years and one burnt out drill (150mm holesaw through a solid wood worktop, needs must)

If there is a lot of grease to bang in a machine I use this air grease gun/tub, saves a fortune on cartridges. Cordless for onsite, this thing for anything workshop.

Can't remember whether it was 6" or 8" (think must have been 6" based off the number of holes) but they were double stacked 18mm ply sheets. Nearly broke my wrist every other hole but drill is still going strong.

Steel would have been easier than wood. Got a plasma cutter for that.

We have both, the M12 is lighter but the M18 has variable grease pulses and more power. I can't comment on the M12 longevity as it's only done a few cartridges. My sons M18 has done hundreds with no issues other than wearing the grease connector, his one has a metric thread and he bought a pack of 10 replacements.

I think if you already have both battery platforms then it depends if weight saving is a benefit or you prefer the extra control/power. There isn't a massive difference in price.

I think extra power might be the deciding factor, there's a few inserts that I've yet to get grease in (I think because the bush has rotated and seized inside the housing). Not using it day in and day out so weight isn't an issue.

I was in the "I don't really need one" camp. I have a few manual guns and one is a really nice Snap On single hand unit where the leverage point can be changed between pressure/volume but being able to just pull the trigger and pump continuously is brilliant. It's not just grease nipples, I was doing some bearings and filling the races was really easy.

My M12 cost barely more than a top quality hand gun, there will always be a place for manual gun especially if they need to be left with machines.

My lad says one of the biggest differences is the hard to reach grease points, people will often leave them but when you can stretch one arm and just pull the trigger it's easy.

I’ve the Milwaukee. M12. Nothing bad to say. The M18 has extra functions but not needed.

I’ve used a makita before and all I’d say is they (that gen anyway) were a bit chunkier than the Milwaukee so depends on access. If that’s an issue for you.

I’d just get what your batteries fit.

2 upgrades that will transform whichever-
1, get a clamp type grease nozzle Guzrik do a good one. Get one with balls rather than a claw end.
2, replace the hose with a long flexible hose. At least 1m if not 2. You can hold the gun somewhere sensible and still reach the fitting that way.

If you’ve dozens to do it makes it a lot easier

I had to purchase a sealey manual grease gun the other day and it's not great but the worse part is the nozzle. It is a twisty type and just ****** grease out then is really hard to get off the nipple.
