Baufix paint

I used this Baufix anti-rust paint from aldi or lidl, can't remember which, and it seems to be good stuff. Tough and easy to apply. But can it be sprayed ? It only says on the can brush or roller, doesn't mention spray at all. Anyone done it ?

They also sell the Baufix brush cleaner etc/ it may be ok to thin the paint for spraying.

I've sprayed it many times. As Dave H about 10% cheapest gun-wash thinners and away you go. Just like the old Tectyl (?) Chassis Black

Lidl have the small 1 litre tins of thinners in at the moment, Ronan. Saw them yesterday at €2.99 a tin.

the "universal thinners" is mostly acetone, its not mineral spirits or white spirit. I wait a few weeks and there's usually a bin with it for a £1 makes a great degreaser when cleaning up engine internals and other degreasing duties

Open to correction, but I don't think the Baufix stuff from Lidl is. I get an instant headache from acetone vapour, and the thinners Lidl sells doesn't bother me.

- Aromatic hydrocarbons
- Xylene ( isomer mixture )

I have sprayed it a fair bit. It’s excellent paint. I use their aerosols a lot...

The small cans of universal thinner are also excellent

This is one of the cans in my workshop. It's possible that they've changed the formulation since I bought it, though.

Take care what thinners you use with it. I was brush painting the baufix paint & went to wash the brush with my 'standard' cellulose thinners, it wouldn't touch the paint. Luckily I had some of the baufix thinners so I used that.
The celly thinners I used didn't have xylene listed on the drum but I tried a different brand that did contain xylene & it will thin the paint.

So the bottom line is to use a xylene based thinner, just to be sure use the baufix stuff.

I think xylene is the stuff old hammerite thinner was made from, so petrol might work as well.

i use there zinc rich primer aerosol, seems to stand up well, only issue was top coat did offer to let go after a year , it was the deck of my ride on mower,so took some hammering.

Sean, it's time for me to eat a serving of humble pie!

I called in to Lidl tonight and checked the current stock of thinners, and the primary ingredient is indeed acetone as you said. The swines have obviously changed the formulation or they have switched to an alternative manufacturer!
