We're all adults here capable of making our own minds up and no one should be criticised or applauded for their personal take on individual safety (in the home workshop).

However, there is no harm in discussing the rights and wrongs/pros and cons of elfin safety issues. At least then the reader is certainly informed perhaps of matters for which they had no prior knowledge.

For example, I lucked out when I discovered in this very forum that welding galvanised steel was a no-no. I was young and foolish and had no idea other than that scaff pole really didn't want to stick... As for using brake fluid as a cleaner, well...

Yep, quite agree. I do what I feel suits me best. Others can do what they please

I’d never had a wire wheel, but always wanted one. Why I waited until I was 75 I don’t know. I’d had a couple of 6inch wire wheels kicking around so decided to try and fit one to one of the grinders I rescued from the skip.
I found it easier to use without the guard on. Same goes for polishing mops.
Without a guard you just get a little scuff on the skin if you slip.
I found they tend to get blunt in use but if you turn it around, it presents a sharp edge on the wires.
Small grinders don’t have much torque. I can stop this one dead with a welding glove.

if they get a bit blunt go over it with an angle grinder while its running generaly run my wire brushes over the grinder to put a sharp edge on them also
