Best helmet £100

Just starting out with welding. Getting a TIG after Christmas so I need a helmet. I have a £100 budget.

What's the best out there for £100 or under?

I have the esab sold by weld equip and I'm very happy with it

I have a parweld reactive helmet and also a 3m speed glass helmet, the speed glass is my choice now but for £45 the par weld is a close second !

If you can stretch to another £5, I can highly recommend the Phantom XL.
Been using one for sometime now and I prefer it to the last few I have had.

I use this too and give it a massive 'thumbs up'. I prefer it over my speedglas. With the larger viewing area and a cheater lens fitted, my ability to actually see what I am doing has made things so much easier and satisfying.

I will second the esab and the r-tech. use an esab at home and the r-tech in work. both good masks

Plus one for the R-tech. I sold my air fed speedglass as this is way superior to use IMHO.

I use the R-Tech one as well I think it was £54 great value
It has a grinding mode as well very handy
My old speedglass goes bright at low ampage settings the R-Tech one is good down to 20 amps

I'm looking for the same price range of helmet. I've had a Speedglass to date that I was given a while back, it's pretty knackered and held together with rivets at the moment. I was thinking of the one of these three;

I only really do MIG and ARC, doubt I'll get around to buying a TIG anytime soon. I'll be using mask almost everyday as I'm a metalworker/ blacksmith by trade.

As we have said look at the R -TECH one when I got mine I was so shocked how clear I could see before you start welding it's a good helmet for the price £65.00 all in its got a big view screen I think it's 65mmX100mm

I was checking and they are out of stock currently thats how good they sell But I used this one http://www.weldequip.com/phantom-xl-helmet.htm at the same time I used the R-tech XL one and no way could I see it was worth extra money. (Almost twice the price.) In fact the weld equip seems easier to weld with as you can see what you are welding and when it darkens it stops the arc/flash and you can still see.

I think I saw a cheaper one on there as well last time I looked. BUt I have got one of those we listed and I dont like welding with anything else.

Ye they have the Speedmaster, and they have the Speedmaster XL. The XL is out of stock at the mo but I'll wait for it

What did you end up buying in the end? I am also looking for a new mask, I could do with a light shade DIN3 but there isn't so much choice they mostly seam to be DIN4.

I had a speedglas and sold it so I could get a Speedmaster XL as its easier to use and seems faster to me . Certainly more useability. I cant comment on the others as I have never used them. I did end up buying a cheap one from a local warehouse for 20 quid to get me out a problem when I could not find my Speedmaster XL and had an urgent job. To be honest if I had to use that thing again I would pack up welding it was so bad.

Anyone know if the Rtech speedmaster XL is CE / ANSI marked or is it a rebadged Chinese version? That said guess anyone can print CE on something!?
Just want to make sure it is up to spec given that its there to protect my eyes!
