Bit of sculpting

[Hitch]

A sculpture, for a gagrage forcourt.
customer gave us rough design/sizes.

All out of 4mm plate, rolled and welded, then capped.
Outside corner joints on sheared edges
100x60 box for the con rods, 200x100x12 rsa for the base.
Gudgeon pin ends 120mm x10mm discs, formed to fit the rad of the barrels.
Rings from 20x12 flat.


The 50x20 flat link between the two con rods was added afted to stiffen it up a bit, doesn't look out of place.

Just in primer paint at the moment, 2k epoxy grey.

I just had the exact same reaction as MrFluffy, I thought that was about 3 foot high at first. Very well done

That's a great bit of artage Mr Mad. Tell us though, how much does it weigh? And what do you mean by "sheared edges"? (I assume you mean more than just guillotined)

I worked it out today, it weighs about 200kg (+/- 10kg)

The overall height is about 2100mm.
Pistons are 604mm diameter.

The sheared edges are just guilly'd (sheared is the proper word )

Missed one question there...

Total time, for fab work i suppose must have been, about 20 hrs. (2 days)
About 3 hours to degrease etc and primer, plus about 2 hours to do the black bits today.

So in total, inclusive of painting, i suppose about 30 hours.

Pistons are 604mm diameter.

If I've worked it out correctly, assuming a roughly square engine (bore=stroke), four of those pistons would make a 700 litre engine

Got a few of the more important jobs out of the way, and eventually got around to spraying it this week.

Silver and satin black synthetic enamels. Black first, then masked up to do the silver.

Looking good! The pictures don't do it justice, it's only when you stand next to it you realise the scale of it. You'll have to take a pic of it when it's sited.

Due to rediculous HSE rules, a specialist contractor has to drill four hols and put in the anchors

Yes, and i have only put about 5 days into them, one bloke been on it nearly 3 months!
