I wish I had the talent to do that

Without sounding rude, how do you know you don't?? I had know idea I could do it and if you look at my first pieces you would laugh, its just loads of patients and practice and telling yourself you can, rather than wishing you can!! YOU CAN!! Start by making something small with old bicycle chain or a thin bar and bits and pieces, find inspiration and just have a go, the first one will look a bit dodgy, make it over and over again till you get it right, then try something else. I started off with a little 4 inch vice, a hammer, bolt cutters and a welder. Sorry to go on like this but I believe everyone has it in them you just need to find it

Best I can do is make lots of scrap. I can do technical things like build a trailer, frame for engine the like but artistic is not something I have

I really like the shape you got into the bodies its very effective, i've made a few cobwebs in the past a fraction of the size of this it must have taken you ages to do them.

Relax and try something 'stupid'. We cant all draw, but we can all sculpt.
Pondman you had it good. I had no bolt croppers, hacksaw and a vice and a hammer was my start off.
But it is weird, it got into my head and I bet yours, that 'This has to be done' like it or not.
We all have 'artistic' within us, it is what makes us human.
I cant draw for a toffee, seriously embarassing bearing in mid what I do for a living. Some customers love the idea, some run away. This has cost me a fortune the last two years.
I am going to learn how to draw. And that it THAT!.
MK, do some of this stuff.
Be original, take influences, dont copy, do your own thing.
Dont worry about drawing it, get it in your head as a shape, then it will let itself out.
Think of something you like, browse images on google. Chill out and an idea will attack you. The weirder the better. Google images by Haeckel.
Saying 'I dont do art' is like saying 'I cant weld'. We can all do both of them.
I cant draw. But I am going to learn how to.

Thanks Strube! these are the best I've ever done, you see the one with the plain bar abdomen? thats how I usually make them, I just wanted to do a special one, I need to improve my sculpting so have decided to put more effort into everything now!

Thanks a lot, I took my time with the bodies cause I really wanted them to look as real as possible. Nearly everyone I show squirms when they see them so it was worth it, I'm having them painted at the moment, I can't wait to get it all back!

At first I felt a bit defeated by this comment, then I saw chunko's comment and it made me even more certain, I believe if you want to do something you can do it, you just have to tell yourself you're going to do it and then have the patients to master it. So I won't accept your comment! I think you should do what Chunko says and look for some inspiration somewhere. Get a picture and then work on making it, start with something simple and work your way up. Also try looking at youtube for tips theres loads of good video help on there.

Spot on PondMan ! Both my missus and myself never thought we had any artistic talent and now the missus is getting great feedback on the baby keepsake pictures that she does, however she still constantly questions if they are 'good enough' etc.

I had a go with making a Ali vs Liston boxing metal sculpture for a christmas present for my brother in law and he loved it, and even took it to work and gets a lot of comments on it.

I was exactly the same, when the recession hit I went from having 60hrs work to 6hrs so I decided to try make a nut and bolt man because I was bored and needed a challenge. Looking at my first one now I thinks its terrible but I'd never tried art before so I loved it back then. I got hooked and made more and more and found my own style, I also made a few photo reproductions. 5 years on and I'm in my own workshop and I've just upgraded my machinery and and living my dream!! Chunko had a very similar path and look at what he produces now

You just never know where the little things you do will take you, so always do them!!
