Blast cabinet glass mechanism

Hey

This is the blast cabinet I saw. The owner says that under the glass is a fine mesh and that the glass lasts him a very long time without any plastic sacraficial protector. He says he still needs to wipe the glass but it comes off easy with the thumb screws. I remember using this cabinet and it was good. It looks like a Chinese cabinet that he's added something onto. Anyone recognise what this blue mechanism is?

They make safety specs from very fine mesh so it is possible to stop flying particles and keep visibility through it. Tunnelers use them because they don't steam up in the hot and humid conditions.

Microwave doors use a metal mesh to maintain the shielding and keep visibility. Could be adapted I think.

I have thin glass cut to use as screen protectors. I Velcro them on so very quick and easy to change once they get frosted. I modified the frame so I can pull it off after unscrewing the wing nuts

my glass just sits in 1 inch angle frame caulked round with silicone the glass lasts ages without protection. just slit round it with Stanley knife and pop a new piece in when needs replacing no frills no spills keep it simple

I've taken the screws out of the top & bottom of mine and have a roll of clear plastic at the top, which I pull down under the glass. When it gets frosted I just pull a fresh section through.

Some dust does get behind the plastic, but it comes of with a gentle wipe with a cloth.

Their is something I keep meaning to get around to........ fitting a ground rod to earth the booth. When media breaks down it creates a lot more static. Think.it would help with dust extraction and make the dust less prone to being attached to the screen

^^ That may be a good idea, especially if you've fitted a mesh behind the screen. I think static causes dust to stick to my plastic sheet.

the cabinet will already be earthed if there's lights in it

The Machine Mart ones have 12v lights supplied via a non-earthed plug-in power supply.

The cabinet is not earthed. The led lights are not earthed either and if they were how would a lights earth ground the booth!!!! A dedicated earth works much different, you could ground it to a ground point that is not dedicated but no comparison to performance

It is, I will do it this weekend and see. The plastic screens are a nightmare for static. Too much hassle for me and too easily damaged. Cheap thin glass is the way for me

I run an air curtain on mine, I've got a length of copper pipe that I drilled tiny holes in an it blows across in fron the of the glass, I have a lever ball valve to control the flow. I don't bother using plastic, the glass is cheap enough to just replace.

electricity boards main earth is connected to the ground mass and is far better than an earth rod . can u test the resistance of the rod to see how good the earth is it may be in sandy soil . the only way to check if its suitable is using an earth loop tester and get a reading of under 200 ohms

I'd advise against using thin glass unless you're happy that whatever you have behind it will stop it being broken by debris that may be lurking in the dirty item you're blasting. I've seen small pebbles trapped in the cooling fins of scooter engine casings.

I still wear goggles and a P2 paper mask when using my blast cabinet.

Mine is in wet clay like soil. If you live in a dry area you should wet the ground rod hole. Non dedicated grounds cause interference from my powder coating experience. Dedicated is the best way, a non dedicated might be good enough for a blast cabinet but it's a hole and £7

don't bother fitting any rod if its not in solid damp ground it defeats the object wetting it as it will dry out and be useless
