Get yourself a 6mm, long venturi nozzle, not cheap but will increases the force of the abraisive coming out the end dramatically.
Also make sure your blast hose isnt to long.

I think the problem may be the compressor is actually set up to run three tools. I suspect there are three equal sized outlet taps to take a 3/4" hose. You are trying to get 140cfm of air down too small a hose. What you need to do if it hasn't already got it is take a larger feed off the air manifold and run a larger hose to the compressor 1 1/2" or 2". Trouble is it all gets a bit more expensive.
You all misconstrue my comment. The blaster is working fine (not sure of nozzle size, I'll look next time I'm near it). What I was saying is that the compressor has an easy life as it is more than adequate for the Hodge Clemco 1440. Yes it's three tool, it has three taps and claw fittings, but they all parallel up off a manifold just behind the taps

the compressor engine will either slow down or speed up by means of a governor depending on the air requirement .using mine on a 3mm jet it doesnt even speed up of tickover 
using a 6mm jet without adding abrasive it runs flat out. when abrasive added it slows to 3/4speed thus requiring less air

Well snap - mines an HPC / Kaeser but only 140 cfm!
It multi tasks running my blaster, pneumatic drill, and my underground mole. All very occassionally. It's next job though will be at the weekend inflating what was bought as a lambing shed, is actually a Chineese Army Field Hospital, and will be used as an auxillary marquee for the wifes 60th birthday party! Whacking great inflateable tent about 10m x 6m
