Blue Araldite?

I have been asked to buy some EXTRA STRONG BLUE ARALDITE for my mate in Latvia, the last lot I got him looked like this,


But the only version I can find on Ebay is this,


I suspect it is the same stuff rebranded but Juris is very fussy, he uses it as body filler for rust pits on his motorcycles prior to stove enameling the top coat!

I didn't think there was such a thing as "extra strong" araldite... it's all incredibly strong, generally the bond to the parent material will fail first!

AFAIK you get "standard" and "rapid"

I always get standard, it sets quickly enough as it is.

Araldite standard is the same as the old 24hr. Stronger than the fast set.
So yes that is the right one.

there used to be an aryldite "precision" or something

i guess thats probably the same as "strong" - really you just want slow setting time

doesn't slump as much as epoxy, but it does need leaving 24 hours or oven curing before you can sand it.

How about phoning araldite themselves??

You can buy the blue Araldite in bulk or in 100ml tubes. Better value than 15ml tubes. Search Araldite bulk in google and you should find it.

I was about to suggest the same - you can/could get it in bigger tubes with a name like "industrial weld" or similar - I stocked up on a trip to the USA in 2000 . . still not used it all, still works just as well.

I can’t believe that Araldite would survive under true stove enameling after all the temperature is that of melting glass. It he perhaps stove baking paint at a much lower temperature?

Vitreous enamel fires at between 750 and 850 degrees centigrade. No way will araldite stand that temperature.

I'm sure that he must be baking 'enamel' paint NOT Vitreous Enamel

I use Devcon for such things , its quite amazing , but not cheap either , just something else worthy of a try if Araldite wont work.

The ammonia smelling Devcon is truly amazing stuff. I have a tin of the Titanium filled stuff that was at least ten years old but still sets fine. I was mounting a new bucket bush in a 3 ton digger dipper where the eye had worn oval and really needed line boring. That was I think 3 years ago and the bush is still solid as a rock!

. . . . but even Devcon won't take 750 deg C !

Stove enammeling is done at about 280° if I remember right. A wet applied enamel paint baked to set it hard.
Alot of old motorcycles and machines etc were painted this way.
I just went with coach enamel on my bike, unfortunately it took a month to learn how to apply it properly!

No it isn't. True STOVE ENAMELLING is with a powdered glass that melts FAR higher than 280 ! Enamel paint isn't stove enamelling.

Remember the glass like finish on baths and stoves back when things were made properly? They were placed in a furnace or stove, brought to a dull to glowing red, and dusted with finely crushed glass of the desired colour, hence calling it stove enamel. There are lesser processes that operate at lower temperatures, but they are NOT true stove enamelling !

I've always just known that as vitreous enamel.
I use vitreous enameled pipe at work pretty much every day.
All the old motorcycle brochures refer to the wet paint and high temp bake as stove enammeling.

I believe they vitreous enameled stoves.

I think the terms just get mixed up.
But I've never seen vitreous enamel referred to as stove enamel by a manufacturer.
That may well depend on what industry the items are in though.

I also searched for stove enamellers when I started restoring my bike. The process turned up baked wet paint applications.
