BM catalytic converters?

I've never had a BM cat make it past the second MOT after fitting - I only throw them on cars where it has to be done for the absolute lowest cost and/or they're repairing the car to get rid of it shortly.

is there a brand you use if the customer expects more than a years life from it?

Not really the cat tech - we've had sophisticated 3-way cars since the 90s - that's more down to injection, mapping and things like manifold air injection.

There's a reason the BM ones are lighter, they put the bare minimum in to meet regs - and that's also the reason they had to bring in EC type approval regulations on the aftermarket catalysts a decade or so ago to force 'em to make something at least reasonable.

Depends what it's for, sometimes I make them up using aftermarket cores if it's something worth the time and money.

For bolt on replacements Walker are usually decent, if you can't find an OE one for reasonable money - however beware they do have basically two spec/quality levels for most vehicles, one aftermarket that basically just meets type approval and one 'oe' replacement spec - I've had good luck with Bosal so far too but I've only really fitted those as replacements for the close-coupled cats (built into the exhaust manifold) on the small ford engines.

Both are generally £250-600 though so a lot more than slapping a cheap BM on every other MOT I guess...

It will work just won't last long, a couple of years maybe

Just ordered a BM one from GSF with a discount code it saved nearly £35 quid at £97 with the fitting kit.
I just hope it's the CAT and not the O2 sensor.
