Bored this evening!

My other half has done a runner back to France to visit her parents, so being a tad bored got me looking through some pics on pc, attached a couple of Mrs Rrrrrrrr's creativity and welding skills, plus my porthole clock, I dished out the copper center and, added points of compass instead of the normal 12>12. Unfortunately a nice pair of steel and copper ladies shoes would not upload.........I'll work on that one later.

Good stuff runnach, probably a bit of a numpty question but how did you do the markings on the copper clock? I've got something in mind for some copper sheet that involves changing the patina of some of it.

Hiya Woz, my idea on the compass reading instead of the norm ### on a clock face. I had a word with a colleague in sign making dept, using cad, he made a template to stick on the polished copper face, the dark N S E W ect, were exposed (cut out) I stuck it on the sand blasted exposed area, then clear lacquer spray to keep the shine.

Hope you get my drift?

Thanks Runnach, that makes perfect sense. I wondered whether you'd painted something on it to 'age' it. just out of interest did you dish it by hand or on a wheel?

I dished it using a peels machine, very noisy to use and, no requirement to anneal, I have done similar using a pear shape mallet and leather bean bag thingy, but found it very time consuming with annealing and stuff, plus dishing with mallet one is limited to matl thickness and, nothing like the finish you get using a machine to dish out, I should add, not done on a lathe, although you can't view from pic, there is a swaged edge that fits very nicely into flat face around the inner circumference.

The sheet I've got is what I cut from a hot water tank so it's pretty thin stuff. I'm not sure if what I've got in mind will even work but if not at least I can weigh it in .
I don't mind admitting that I'm not even remotely arty so I don't hold up much hope .

Top part of the copper planter was HWT I removed from my house while doing a CH rip oot and new installation, it is a fair chunky thickness! I know newer tanks are nothing like a similar gauge to old tanks. I have to admit I'm in the same camp as you at creativity, but what the hell, go for it, beauty and creativity is in the eye of the beholder!

What have you in mind to manu Woz?

I know newer tanks are nothing like a similar gauge to old tanks. I have to admit I'm in the same camp as you at creativity, but what the hell, go for it, beauty and creativity is in the eye of the beholder!

What have you in mind to manu Woz?

I fancy doing a hanging 'something' with maybe some windchimes on it, not sure really, got a few ideas in my head. The good thing is that I've got plenty of the copper so I might do a small scale one to start with and see how it goes.

I'm still working on the steel/copper ladies shoes to upload, I have it added to a word doc file and, the file is too large!! they went rapid for a good price at an art exhibition, cannae take a pic now

I'd hang to it, it always comes in handy for washers, gaskets &c.

A chap near me made a kit car and cut a hot water cylinder from top to bottom and a large rectangualr hole in the front for the radiator. It looked just like a Bullnosed Morris!

Strangely enough Woz, I have a similar idea, have some 32, 22 and 15mm copper pipe for the chimes ready to go, just need the time!

Two summers back I completed a major rear garden refurb, built new wall and stuff, hence me welding one set of the steps in the attached pics.

Same here, plants are the Mrs's Department, I dont mind the hard landscape stuff, got several projects on the go round the garden, but again time.....love to have the money and the time to do what I want...

This is one of the models, not the one I recall, but made by the same bloke who has his garage 300 yards down the road from me.

I sometimes go over the top with my ideas Snowie, hired a wee mini digger when I realized I required this job complete this century

Plus spinning the plates manufacturing stairs!

Digger was good fun tho.

it's a bit off-topic but grab a copy of Irfanview, you'll find it all over the place on the internet. There's a decent forum to learn/discuss using it.

It's a very simple but effective free image manipulator/viewer. You can resize/rename single images or batches of images, as well as rotate the image, or change hues and lighten/darken, etc...plus you can do screen captures.

So you could have the word doc on screen, capture it, crop off the unwanted bits and save as an image.

I use Irfanview and Xnview, I find the latter better for enhancing images. If you press the "Print Scrn" key on your keyboard (Win 98 at least) it will copy the screen to the clipboard, then it can be pasted as an image into graphics software, Word and loads of others.

Print Scrn doesn't do anything on mine, Windows XP SP2.
