factory rounds will do sub inch groups, homeloads I make will do sub half inch or better.
Afterthought to my above post ^^ Over what sort of range?

Factory .357 magnum £46+/100, reloads £16/100
Without kidding I have had sub 1/2" groups at 220 yards from quality factory in 243 win
Federal with the 70grn nosler .
I can only match that with my reloads. If I was shooting at 600-1000 yards good handload would paste any factory though.
The head separation on Lapua if its occurred within ten reloads is most likely a sizing error or a rifle issue Imo.

So, how do costs compare [allowing for all the time and equipment you'd need to buy] between buying a round and recycling a spent one?
Premium ammo has moved on a fair way if you lash the cash for sure. Nobody ever made anything if they never made mistakes. Norma, Lapua,, rws is great brassNever found a factory loaded round for my 243 that could do that, have for the 270.
The Lapua brass was one time loaded, manufacturing error. They aren’t perfect

When I was shooting, Radway Green ammo was the best factory made competition round if you didn't re-load, is it still about?.
Speaking economics I can reload 22 hornet for a lower cost than 17hmr factory Rimfire
I have put about 5K rounds through my cz Hmr....a few with split necks but still fired ok.
Not had a single problem with it.
I think a lot of the problems have been split necks leading to iffy powder so the primer just fires the bullet an inch or so up the barrel. Instead of following the proper safety procedures the shooter loads another round and the invetable happens when they pull the trigger.
Rubbish, sold it maybe 6-7 yrs back Dutchy took it off the keepers here because of health and safety due to the amount of split cases. How do you find the hmr? Mate has one, only seen it action a couple of times. Can’t say it impresses me very much, I might be tainted by all the bad press hmr ammo gets.
Yes it is but it's rubbish. Lapua make some great stuff but it costs ! I don't know a serious target shooter who doesn't hand load to the individual rifleNever heard of it, never done competitive shooting so I maybe move in the wrong circles
