brazing or soldering?

If you're going to braze itor silver solder, you could do worse than one of these:

It's a Bullfinch auto torch and having lucked into getting my hands on one in a job lot, it turns out they are one of the very best. Easily capable of melting brass off a little propane cylinder.

For those who have the Mig / TIG gear would it seem viable to TIG braze the wearing surfaces with TIG brazing rods as the amount of heat involved is quite small .

Billy do you have any of these parts that are beyond your level of repair for the lads to play with ?

Sorry there needs to be more heat to silver solder or braze but the brass is so thin that it just disappeared as soon as I put heat to it using a size one nozzle.

I suppose so...but I think I am going to mail 10 or so CNC firms and see what their thoughts are on a small production run. I have an original new piece so the dimensions do not have to be approximated. The tolerance would not be tight anyway.

I would be very surprised indeed if you get one reply! You might find someone able to do them if you advertise on some model engineering forums.

I am of the same opinion...but no harm in trying. I suppose if I could convince a hundred or so of the other machine users then the run could be 8000 yearly in theory...that would be like herding cats as I previously intimated. I have ordered some brass flat bar 20mm x 10mm and am going to look into what hobbyist machine i would need to develope the 2 channels in the piece. The thinner one is the guide channel itself and the wider one with the small lip at the bottom is for mounting. They are over engineered I think. If I can get them going attacking with solder and a dremel....

Why not post some want ads on model engineering sites as I suggested? What format have you sent CAD files for your parts? Guess someone might take a look, but not if they have to mess around converting file formats etc.

I`m not technically thick...its just not my stomping ground. Am I to assume that for any company to take me seriously..this might be something for me to get done, CAD drawing of required part. I had in my mind I could send one off and say , ` make me some of these`. Ah well, I should have known it would not be that easy !

You are likely to have more luck asking on model engineering forums, where there are often people willing to make small numbers of parts for reasonable cost. I have a mate who can do CAD drawings for me, but I guess if you dont know anyone, even getting a drawing done would be pretty costly?
