Did you check dc link voltage?
You need to remove the coating before measuring. Otherwise you can get a bad termination.

Hi there,

Nope - as written in the first post the device doesn't show any signs of life when I plug it in. I can measure the voltage after the main switch and a little bit further down where the Varistor and this "big" - guess it's a filter - coil sit's.

I realized a -+15V supply already - working on the 5V now. Probably just using an USB charger... We are very limited up here...

yep ,,, Ive spent a lifetime preaching the buy quality thing , these days so much stuff is getting made in China [ Hilti springs to mind} you may as well just buy the genuine original Chinese junk to start with and throw it away when it breaks ,,,,
So much for the hand made in England , etc etc etc

The problem is that every welder needs to be very small and light!
All electronics components are stressed to the limit or sometimes over the limit! Using stronger components would avoid many repair issuses!

from a top brand I dont think thats an acceptable reason, when others say its "normally " the same fault , if there is a weak link it should be uprated, and to charge silly monies to replace the board is just taking the rip out of your probably up till now loyal customer base .

Alright guys - one last update. I connected the 15 and 5 VDC externally and by doing this the Fronius showed some signs of life. I could play around with the menu button - changing settings etc. So this confirms that the problem is the low voltage power supply. Since we don't have all the spare parts that's all I can do for now. The camp already ordered a new Fronius and this "broken" device might become my own personal project... Maybe some day with some patience I do the final fix...

That's good news! Did you do some welding tests?
With all voltages on the right spot, the TP will work like new!
With -15V or +15V missing the welder runs, but doesn't have much power!
5 V is needed to run the controller and all programm settings!

This post seems closed but if you people are still here I have trouble with my 1500. IGBT block is gone - two transistors short. If somebody has scrapped one and just about to dump, please let me know. Also good to talk to people repairing those. Thanks
