@Shox Dr you probably already know this, but if you find that the rpm meter won’t work, try flipping the magnet over. It’s polarity sensitive.

Guess how many times I checked and rechecked the wiring before I worked that out!

Sliced off to 48mm. Found the 12mm reamer, only to find it a slack fit on the motor, luckily a test bit. So I used an adjustable to creep up on it, almost a press fit.
A quick mock build to see if everything is happy. I am for sure. Insert height is bang on. Looks like I need to relieve the holder so it clears

The motor wasn’t designed for axial load. So I bought a moosive thrust bearing to go in between the flywheel and motor mount. She big

It’s a bit chilli in the workshop today, I doubt I’ll show my face in there.

Finished up machining the motor mount for the thrust bearing, also machined a pocket in the rear for the motor.




Quick check to see if the shaft is perpendicular...less than half thou.


And the 60quid 3 jaw I bought recently, continues to make me smile, runout on the shaft is less than 0.03mm

Quick peek in the motor, lots of windings.


Still to fit magnets and drive pin

Made a start on the Control box today, 0.9mm stainless steel left over from another job.












Weld blended out, it needs a final bush.

Modified a low voltage travel plug to power the Counter, cut the top off and hot glued a cut up credit card in place, drilling a 3mm hole for the red power LED.
Bit of a squeeze.

That's very neat

The large thrust bearing is an interesting idea - was it fiddly trying to get the preload right? Guess you adjust it just by how tight you nip the retaining bolt on the shaft? Takes away the issue of a big lump of ally on a very small shaft I assume? That was why I went with the layshaft approach on mine.

Liking the control box, making my metal folding look a bit agricultural

Thank you. The thrust bearing maybe a little over kill, will see how it goes, I might remove some of the needle rollers to reduce friction, though it spins freely at the moment. Preload as you say is set by the retaining sleeve and bolt, I didnt get sleeve spot on so it has a 5thou shim.

Yes I have. Not checked the wiring yet, the Screen and the sensor lights up.

Now! I’ve just had a thought the lemon the back of the sensor is lit all the time, where I think it should light when its triggered.

Found a home for it today. I had the idea of fixing the bench grinder to the other side and have it rotate 180*. But lost interest . Typical for my projects; get it working and on to something else more interesting.




I'll excuse myself as the main project is fully finished, the rotation was is a sub (do a job make a job) category, and this doesnt take anymore room. Its at chest height for me so I dont have to stoop to use it.
