I studied lots of commercial and homemade grinders and I picked out the aspects I liked.
the one big change would be to loss weight, most of the frame is 10mm plate.
1/4" and 1/8" with ribbing would achieve the same , I just happened to have 10mm plate.
the sheet metal enclosure was a lot of work, but I enjoyed making it, its very good at keeping the grit/dirt off.
I probably complicated it by making it adjust up & down and turn into horizontal grinding position.
So I will make a lighter simpler unit, still with the enclosure.
The spot welder followed me home when I was buying a fly press. Somebody had relived it of its brass arms and copper holders (they probably got a tenner in scrappy, but I got a welder for nowt)
I made my own from a meter of 50mm brass and a couple of feet of copper.
it came at the right time for me as joining galv sheet is a pain using only fixing or welding ( too much/can't reach cleaning)
It is primarily a 3ph machine but it can operate on 220v, which is what I use.

I see, I figured a light machine could suffer from flex or vibration,I cant have that for my kind of work but perhaps 20mm plate was overkill lol it would be great if I could turn my own but its too heavy for that I believe,do you do car restoration work? its the one thing I should have bought a spot welder!

Just as well its not hand written or I wouldn't be able to read it.
That's the problem with mine and not being used very often it needs to be portable. ..might convert mine to like the blue one.

nice job hasn't it got a table underneath the belt to press the -work against though
he helped out by tripping me up and trying to eat swarf,he is a cat dog!Was it you or the cat that built it?
I see why the cat was in pics now. Lol my wife whinges when I store things in the back room let alone turn it into a workshop.there is a sxhit load of drilling and tapping in this,all done by hand too,i should have tigged it and milled it all true afterwards,ruined my kitchen with swarf

I shoud advertise for dyson also because that hoover in the background has hoovered up metal filings,swarf and rust for the last 3 years from 3 car rebuilds a milling machine and a lathe! people say they dyson aren't great, if it broke the first year I would have been fine with it!
