Building a Homemade Belt Sander

Hi,
I started building a homemade belt sander 6 x 48 Belt with 12 disk. I have some pictures on photobucket. Please look and tell me what you think.

Quality built by the look of it, very nice.
I have one myself and its probably the most used machine in the workshop.

Thank you. I wish I had a sander to build mine had to use a hand grinder to round off all the corners very hard work. The motor is a 1 hp 1725 rpm. 56 frame base. Thank you Vernon

is it made from stainless? whatever it is looks solid, nice finish.

No stainless all steel just sanded down some of it is cold finsh flat. 317. lbs
so far is the weight 317.00 lbs = 143.79 Kg

You might have to register on the forum but there is a belt tensioner for sale here http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?110937-Belt-tensioner. Its nothing to do with me just thought it might be useful £15 including PP and UK postage or £10 for cash if you want to collect it from Derby

Cheap at a tenner, even £15. Or you could use an old tensioner for a cars cam belt, though the spring maybe a bit on the heavy side. Or a door closer?!!

A friend of mine is selling that tensioner, he's in Chesterfield. The £15 might not include postage as far as Ohio Have a look on cnc cookbook for ideas on grinder fabrication.

Hey Brightsparks,
Nice hey how far does your table on the disk pull away when @ 45 deg. I had to make new bracket on the belt table because of the change from 90 deg to 45 deg.Just finsh it today made a trunion hinge. looks to work real nice now.Thank you for you photos very nice

hi there and thanks . your sander is verry impresive a smart job just checked the gap on the disk sander and its 3/4 of an inch stand off at 45 degrees so i take it u have eliminated that by using a trunnion
