I met a guy in the forest on one of these e mountain bikes. He was a big fella, won’t have seen his toes for a few years kinda size 
. He said he could get roughly 30mph out of it on the flat. I didn’t believe but after reading this thread, he possibly could.
I wish more torch manufacturers would use 21700 batteries

Today I ran the bike with the display working and the full battery pack in.
The included 60A 3000w Controller must off had it's specifications crated in a very optimistic marketing department.
It actually tops out at 29A draw and 1000W.
I have since ordered a Sabvoton 100A controller which is supposed to be a very powerful and trusted controller with full programming features.
That being said, even at 1000W the bike is still pulling 30MPH on the flat with me on it and faster when pedaling.

Looks quite funky,
But clicking through the options even through ebay the bike with no battery comes in at near on £2k.
For something that potentially has limited backup/warranty/parts available that's a fair chunk of risk.

With the battery it’s coming out at around £2.5k. It’s all standard parts so I don’t really see any risk.

Snag for me, although I really quite fancy one, is that it is more than twice the price of any vehicle I have bought myself in a long time. I am going to wait a bit longer and find a wreck/abandoned project and take it from there.

Yes, the battery got rebuilt into a 72v 21ah unit with a 100a smart BMS.
when fully charged the motor is putting out almost 9KW peak.
The bike is a lot of fun.

Well, paying the price for putting this bike away over the winter and forgetting about it.
Dragged it out and even though the batt is showing 75% the controller isn’t getting any power.
The BMS shows 3 strings of cells are at about 1v each, the other 17 strings are fine at 3.4v.
I’m going to rebuild the pack into a 48v unit with the good cells and sell it with the original 48v controller.
I’ve ordered a set of 20 ePLB C020 cells to make a new pack, these are what I wanted to use last year but they weren’t available.

These C020 cells are best being compressed and not allowed to expand under charging.
With this in mind I cut two 6mm aluminium plates, bolted through the top of the cells with 2 x M6 studded bars plus another 3 bars at the bottom.
The thick plates gave me somewhere to bolt the BMS to. Now I’ve just got to sort the BMS wiring and a couple of mounting brackets.
