Built a new home for my xmas pressie

Santa bought me a pillar drill, unfortunately yet again I was forced to re-organise my workshop to find a home for it.

Built a low bench, enough room for the pillar drill, tool chest, bench grinder and a shelf at the back for more storage and use of dead space.

I was feeling mellow today, so I opted to Tig instead of Mig.

Picture doesn't show it very well, the bed clears the tool chest and shelf giving me 1.2m to the wall.

It's stragne what we all see in other pictures, and yes thanks for your offer, I'm done with making new cooking devices, for the time being, I don't have enough time to use the ones I have

dosnt that welder and plasma cutter overheat when in use due to being so high up when you have the heating on to keep warm while pottering in there ?

as a handy place to have them high if they work that way

Its a Tig and a Mig. Reasonable air flow around them and never have them both on at the same time.
I have no heating...If I get cold, it means I'm not working hard enough

It is kin handy having them out the way above head level. I have a couple hooks on the ceiling allowing me to hang the torch rather than having leads trailing the floor.

Although free-standing, the pillar drill is quite sturdy, I decided to perform a modification to allow me to bolt it down.



The real reason for wanting it secured can be seen below

Where did you get the table?

£150 from an ebay seller. Search 'compound table' and quite a few come up. Be sure to make note of the measurements on the listings as they often look a lot bigger in the pictures. Could have easily bought a micro table that fits in you hand without realising it.

That was my concern. You look at the photos and it looks perfect, then read the measurements.

It feels nice with no slop. Im just waiting for a DTI to arrive in the post so I can then clock it up properly and use it for a job that needs to be out in 2 weeks.

Clocked the table up today. No shimming required, which was pleasant surprise.
Up until now I haven't drilled a single hole, so I set to work on a mini project - a bolt on 'stop'
I chucked the pillar drill straight into the deep end drilling small holes through 12mm round bar, and 11mm holes in 5mm plate, all stainless.
It's no mill, but the setup exceeded my expectations for sure.

Its MT2, I doubt if theres a possibilty for a drwabar (but I will looksee). I don't plan on doing any actual milling on it though.

I might do a cheeky slot 9 wide, 20 long, in 1.5mm material though
