Burying pipe

I want to run a decent water supply to the bottom of the garden. Been using a bit of hose for years but recently picked up some 15mm polypipe. Its the regular grey stuff.

The first step is to go across a side path which I can easily do, just pick up some concrete which has already broken up, lay the pipe then concrete over it. Can I do that with polypipe or do I need a bit of specific stuff? I there an issue with burying the two 90 degree connectors and concreting over them?

I could also do it in copper but the main run (all 35metres) is going to be in the grey plastic pipe so I'd rather keep it all the same.

If it's a fresh water supply for workshop then if doing to spec would 750mm depth .

Dig a hole to depth each end and fire a grundomat down it, no mess or trenches. Most service layers would do this for a drink.

I can pick up the loose paving and dig a trench with my bare hands. Then either drop the (broken) paving back over it or concrete it in.

It should ideally be potable so i might need to terminate it in the shed then run it out to the forge/paddock area where its needed.

2'6", deep to avoid frost, is how deep we had to lay water pipes. (long time a go as a plumbers mate)

External water pipe should be blue MDPE water pipe @ 750 to 1350 with suitable back flow prevention as per water regs but as this is out side and your doing it for you self I would highly recommend sleeving it or getting proper pipe with a barrier of some kind also try to avoid connections if possible makes life less Hassel

In 1976 I bought a brand new semi bungalow. One day the attached neighbour decided to aerate the front lawn with a normal garden fork - and went straight through the main water feed ! Seems cowboy builder had laid pipe on the ground and then simply added a thin layer of soil to level off before turf.

Stick it 2'6" down the frost or someone digging the garden shouldn't get to it at that depth
Avoid using any connections under ground
Where it comes to the surface put some decent thickness insulation on it

If you have to dig a trench why not get some 2" ducting with long swept bends and stick the 15mm polypipe in that, If you ever need to change it you can pull a new one in easy and maybe a date cable or cctv/alarm wire, My mate has just used 30 metres of 4" soil pipe so he can run mains and water later.

olderisbetter is quite right,
everytime I dig a trench always put a spare 50mm plastic conduit in as well....dead cheap......the time it has saved me over the years........esp when u need another cable etc to go to the shed / barn after ten years since u dug the original............

Not gonna happen. It goes under the paving then I'm just going to string it along the fence. It's a shed at the other end so if it's freezing, I won't be out there!

Funny enough, I do have the option to grab about 30m of soil pipe (same neighbour). I was thinking I might use some for extractor ducting but there's no way I can lay it along the full 30m route through what has effectively become dense jungle.

That looks more like a corridor than a conduit! I only have one of those, albeit a couple of sizes down. Found it and was thinking maybe subwoofer but that ended up being made from MDF so it's just propped up against a tree waiting to be upcycled...

The current solution is a hosepipe fed from a tap that just snakes along the ground. A hosepipe with hard cable CATV shoved down inside that runs along the path next to 16mm SWA which is also "surface mount". Been like that for 20 years, no problems at all yet so that's all we have to beat.

I **might fancy having potable water out there. The water which makes it down the hose is rancid, I think I may have previously used that hose to flush out an IBC tank that had once been used for curry paste! Along with the grey water pipe, I picked up a little water heater unit which my neighbours work gang had used for a little kitchen section in their (now defunct) shed. At the moment, the hose feeds an extra large butler sink but the connection at that end with taps, diverters feeding additional runs of hose has become somewhat cruddy.

I **need water for the forge, to feed the power washer at the garages, to wash my hands and to service the pond. since I need to refurbish the vales and stuff, I thought I might as well go the whole hog and fit a decent supply. I am surprised the new power washer doesn't collapse the (heavy duty) hose but it must be on the edge of doing that...

OH and the section of the new supply that has to be buried:

Really just that bit or I'll be tripping over it or bumping trolleys over it as I have to do with the current hose.
