Hi Guys and Gals.
Was busy elsewhere this weekend, gardening a lot and car cleaning and maintaining, I was in the shed tonight though when stupid Corrie was on for an hour. I took off the side cover to clean and check the feed rollers and found the reel was a bit too slack and the wire a bit undone, I've tightened that a wee bit better, I can move it fairly easy but it won't freewheel any more. I only hope the wire that is loosened off feeds okay, not much I can do bar cut it off and that would be a whole lot of wire.
I removed the feed roller and made sure the grooves were clean, I replaced it and tensioned the rollers till the wire feeds fine but slips if I put some pressure against it.
I hope this is all fine, I will be welding tomorrow so will be sure to report on whats been done, if it helps or not.
Bigrab.
After a too short weekend I was back to the grind today, I did some welds and I attach two photo's A front and back shot of two welds top one at Min & 3 bottom at Max & 3. Top had little or no penetration bottom one better, I was practicing other cut-outs and welds but need more practice at preperation as I made a complete mess of them.
I was also under the car cutting out part of a rotten chassis cross member which needs repaired before next MOT, it's going to take a bit of cutting out and I'll need to remove the bumper to get at some bits.
I used a flap disc to clean of the Galvanising off my steel plate but although I made a good job of it I still got a white deposit on the underside of the weld, what kind of mask would help? I didn't breath any of the fumes. I hope!
One thing I did learn! I always welded away from me with Arc, I tried doing it towards me and I keep on line a lot easier.
