buying tools

do your research well before buying .a lot of power tools are badged up and packaged with companys names on them. i just bought a compresed air belt sander for 55 quid off ebay brand new nice machine id priced them from 3 diffrent supliers all £100 quid . a good saving then i saw the same tool on rgd tools for about £42 un badged ive been stiched up 13 quid mind u theres people paying £100 for them .I i have 3 da sanders all bought cheap under 15 quid and repaired them. all are a difrent make but all by the same firm in japan BADGED UP . i cant complain though out of a lot of tools ive only bought one lemon and an over priced sander

The exact same thing happens a lot with bicycle parts. Carbon frame from a well known brand - £1400. Exact same frame unbranded £400.

There are so many tools out there badged up as quality brands but they're the exact same tools as the cheaper brands. Paying for the name instead of the work involved.

I think a lot of air tools look the same, but generally I stick to CP but I rarely pay more than £20 off ebay

Sealey tools are are prime example of over inflated prices, IMO...

You do really mean Japan and not China?
The other stuff you looked at could have been Chinese copies, all RGD stuff is Chinese.

yup the sanders are made in japan there over 20 years old so not new enough 2 be chinese japan copied all our tools 1st and improved some of them. now china is copying with no improvement and to a budget price

heres a few of the japanese sanders bought for 10 quid and fixed for a fiver each . this is the new sander its well made and sounds nice . and heres my older one im repairing . it came from an engine plant 40 years ago ive used it ever since all is needed is 1 bearing cost of about 4 quid and its good as new

Yup the sanders are made in Japan they're over 20 years old so not new enough to be Chinese. Japan copied all our tools and improved some of them. Now China is copying with no improvement and to a budget price.

Well the story goes that I bought it untried at a local auction for about a tenner, I was bidding on a few items (which would have made it worthwhile), but got outbid on all apart from this item, so had to drive a fair few miles just the pick the damn thing up!

It didn't work, I stripped it and found the rotor fins to be broken so ordered some more, they were very cheap, but when reassembling it only spins very slowly so I'm stuck.

If I was more sensible I would just chuck it in the scrap bin as I've spent more time and money on it than it's worth, but I'm a tightwad Yorkshireman and if it's something simple.....
I can get some pics taken if it's of any help.

apart from the rotor blades being tight . they should be a verry loose fit. is the air inlet in to the chamber in the right position

an update on the new sander nielsen clarke universal airtools us pro tools bergen and sealy are all the same sander ranging in price from 35 quid to 125 for the same article so ive paid 25 over the odds im gutted there isnt a n emoticon for di ././khead is there

well dont feel alone there mate....buying gear these days is a logistic nightmare regarding re-badged lines
