What a pity, i have some starrett tools i bought years ago and they are great quality. Never liked their micrometers though. Have they still got the place in Scotland or has it gone to China ?

Reaction to yesterday’s devastating news from Jedburgh
Calls have been made for a “stimulus package” for Jedburgh following the double blow yesterday of the town’s two biggest employers announcing job losses.

Just this morning I remembered getting a job offer from GEA Ahlborn, now just GEA I think, big in dairy then, now pharmaceuticals.

I know Mahr tools moved production to the Czech republic, not as bad as china or brazil i suppose.

Its the hand tools I buy for our guys. Engineers combi square sets, dividers, inside/outside/spring calipers, all that sort of stuff. Moore & Wright always made the best... Still do, I think... the quality has definitely dropped, but struggling to find comparable quality anywhere now...
The Starrett combi squares would have been great for £50 but not for £130... M&W equivalent is nicer quality still, but at £180 it bloomin' well aught to be.
IMO they dropped £50 in quality around 4-5 years ago, but not £50 off the price tag.
Mitutoyo combi squares look lovely... but they're £230! I can't justify that much price difference.
