Caravan hot water/shower

Have removed the rotten cross beam and the wall boarding, insulation is dry luckily, found a small hole in the floor where outside trim fell off so guessing it’s came up through there.

Currently have two heaters in there with some windows open to try and dry and ventilate. If this doesn’t work I think the next option will be a dehumidifier.

There’s patches of mould etc but all dry to the touch, so hoping this will clean off fairly easily.


On the shower topic, it won’t be going inside the caravan. Mainly to save room and hassle.
Hoping to get it watertight and dry by next weekend and then wait for a hard frost to move it to its permanent home around the back, just a 30m pull through a wet clay field to get it there


The wood from the furniture and cabinets we didn’t want does make a lovely fire tho

Only the side rail and floor directly below it to replace. Almost everything ripped out to get the layout etc how we want it.

2” thick slab of beech for the tv unit + some shelving. Now just sofa, bed and some cupboards to build. only problem is I am not a “precision” carpenter, a lot of swearing is anticipated for tomorrow

you will soon move out of the caravan

as it can be used as a store room and also as a wash shower area as well

not forgetting if you design it around a shed build when its time take down and move elsewhere and build your workshop with it as everything thats in it including insulation can be reused again

finishing the one above as i prefer the metal sheet storage or part home

but if you do intend to still use the caravan then upscale it by insulating it and clad it

or plastic cladding

just one thing though if you clad it make sure you also do the roof by extending over the sides

a major house repair is better in comfort than in bad conditions like cold or bad home areas it can make you or break you

External cladding + insulation is on the books for when it’s sited round the back. Will also be adding a extension “porch” on to the door side the length of the van, just to add to the living space and have room for shower etc. 6 sheets of 150mm kingspan being picked up tomorrow, CHEAP, off marketplace. So will make a nice dent into that.

Porch will probably be timber framed, more bloody carpentry.
Also considering using kalmer boards (above) for the cladding, available local at a decent price. Either overlapped or side by side, depends how well they line up

id timber frame the caravan myself then insulate it and fit cladding around rear

then all i need to build is add on timber frames then add the cladding both ends to finish it then it becomes one unit

porch washroom and shower unit and if you choose a cooking area within it

its all down to your planning of it

as goes for a shower an ibc tank will give you most of what you want and be sealed at the base of it

all i would do is extend the bars and add plastic to the sides and cover over the top then theres no sharp sides to deal with

but for 25.00 or less you get a good base and good waterproof sides

create a hot tube using an ibc tank if you want

Looks like water came in under the left window, and take a good look around the flue on the roof,

i was pulling his post back to see how the op was doing with all of this and how far they had gotten with there projects as its nice to know how some posts have progressed or did they swap and changed to something else
