No. Could of been a radial drill or mill/drill machineDo you know what the cube was originally fitted on / to ?
But I'll bet it gained a bunch of hardness.......While I am doing the cube I been slowly doing a piece of railway track that I will use as a anvil..but I did think about contacting British rail saying I aint happy because after ten years of 800 plus tons smashing up n down it 24hr a day the track has lost a bit of accuracy
Because.....Taking the time to photograph and post excellent write ups with clear instruction is time consuming.I'm not trying to have a go, but what's the point of a restorations thread if you won't tell people how stuff is done?
Changes the whole "2001 space " movie....the cast iron "borg" from pre-historic times eh ?I quite liked the way the cube looked originally...can't fake that sort of ageing .

Why do it ? To help others learn faster what it took us 30 years or more to learn.
Why not do it ?
Arrogant newbies that take your excellent explanations, and say "Yabbut that's not how I saw it on You-toob".
Thereby negating all your skills, experience, and time & effort you've invested in trying to help others.
EDIT: Julian, I quoted you, but am not calling you one of the arrogant newbies, your a good person.
Brilliant, so we can stop sharing knowledge amongst ourselves.
Although I will say if it took you 30 years to learn a menial task I can understand why you would feel that you should protect it.
Knowledge should be free otherwise it dies.
If someone feels like they want to contest an opinion well that's freedom of speech
It will look nice when it's done but will serve many a purpose in the workshopIt's a shame to clean the rust off...anything you make with that would look bloomin awesome.
Even as garden art/ sculpture it would look fantastic.
Please don't be put off. What a bleak outlook. As a young restorer always looking to learn, hearing stuff like that really puts me off.
Why should it put you off..looking to learn is good and keeps the brain ticking...we live in a social media world where a million videos can show you how it's done...I spent many years experimenting with different techniques until I was happy with the results...its a lot of hard work that takes time...I did make how to videos but it was a nightmare because its very time consuming and then you have to answer the heap of messages from people who know it all but know fk all. What a bleak outlook. Yabutt did you strap a Go-pro to a squirrel for the video, and then add loud rock moosic all the time ?...Why should it put you off..looking to learn is good and keeps the brain ticking...we live in a social media world where a million videos can show you how it's done...I spent many years experimenting with different techniques until I was happy with the results...its a lot of hard work that takes time...I did make how to videos but it was a nightmare because its very time consuming and then you have to answer the heap of messages from people who know it all but know fk all.
I’m open to discussion, quite often I have a student say he’s seen xy on YouTube on a subject. Sometimes I’ve done it that way myself and I know it’s not great, sometimes I’ve not seen it and it’s an easier way of doing the job, sometimes we break it down into why it should be done my way or their way. It’s a learning experience and I’d rather have folk starting a conversation and thinking things through franklyPlease don't be put off.
It's just very discouraging to take time to help the "younger generation" only to have them sum up your whole post with "Meh, I saw it different on U-toob, so you must be all wrong".
It's a fact, and many are getting tired of the treatment.
Also 99.44/100 are good, it's the .66% that ruins it for everyone.
I do hope that your engineering is better than your maths! Please don't be put off.
